She spoke (and sang) up against both Tuareg separatism and Islamic militants, who forced her to leave Timbuktu and settle in Bamako where she died of undisclosed causes. Like many other female Malian singers, she spoke out against the traditional treatment of women in her society and in favour of empowerment. She was a friend of Ali Farka Touré who did much to promote her career, sharing a platform with her on numerous occasions.
    She has made a number of recordings but Amazon's prices seem very inflated.

      A sad loss.
      That's a terrific NPR tiny concert accompanying the obituary.

      Prompted me to look on Spotify - 1 album, several compilations but no playlists.
      There's a lot of her work on YouTube.
      I thought this was the most appropriate
