    That was fun

Well the boards over on r3 went promptly at 12.00 just as I was about to post this link to keep our spirits up...so here it is anyway

This tune, "Don't Gag Me - Je nwi Temi" showcases the fabulous Fela Kuti & Afrika 70 saxophonist, IGO CHICO directing dance floor traffic with his horn in a ...

I'll take a small bow and accept a small prize for myself for making The Last Post
    this might be it
Ahh no it isn't, you just get a white screen, but if you click on the World Music section on the left hand side you can maybe see the threads...not sure if the techs are archiving stuf

If the boards are being left, as with the other stations then you should be able to see the whole thing at:
    them old WM MB's

Well done GlobalTruth for being the last person standing. I popped out for a couple of hours and there it was. Gone. I had similar feelings to those of 29 March 2006 when in Greenwich for the partial solar eclipse. Stunned.

That Fela Kuti clip is amazing. The electric atmosphere of that event bounces off the screen as does its place in history. I saw Seun at Womad in 2008 and he in his own way was storming.

Happy St Andrews Day to John. What an incredibly moving performance from Michael Marra. In an odd way, he reminds me slightly of the late Leo Ferre in the way he reaches the listener emotionally.

I admit I was wrong. Not everyone is a robot except for me and my monkey. We hae meat and we can eat sae let the Lord be thankit.

Well, take a deep breath, and move into the future. End of an era. Let's hope we still have something to talk BBCwise about this time next year!

Why? do you think they will be BSKYBC by then? or in line with our Russian theme, perhaps BBCSKY?

or, more likely that the World Music programmes have gone from the current slot?

Just so. I started a thread on the old board, and either nobody official read it, or nobody was able to offer a commitment to world music programming on R3. I'm told that BBC Asian network is under threat. Things don't look good for minority programming. Somebody may just have to make a stand and offer a dedicated internet station featuring our music. I'm making a bit of a stand in that I'm going to have world music programming on my show on the Cat, for as long as is possible. That's the best I can do for now in terms of public service.

Martin - I completely agree with your comments and admire your commitment. One thing I wondered though was whether world music broadcasting needs to be a minority interest. I could envisage a station where there would be a wide range of programmes which would fit loosely under the "world music" banner. Daytime programmes with a lot of crossover appeal, genre based programmes (eg reggae, country, folk, jazz, soul, dance/trance, classical/ambient world music) for the purists in the evenings. Of course, this goes back yet again to the debate about the term "world music" and whether it is the best one. Personally, I have a lot of time for the committee that chose it and ditched alternatives like "world beat". I'd keep it.
