The African teams, with the exception of the Lions of Senegal, have not been covering themselves in glory so far - indeed, it looks like we are already losing the Egyptians, though they are saying: Don't write us off yet! Clearly in de nile!
And I don't hold out lots of hopes for fellow North Africans as I think we're in danger of seeing a Moroccan roll out of the tournament today v the Portugese. Time for the former buddies of Mick and Keef to get an outing before it's too late:

I've got them in the Alyth Primary School sweep...come on you Colombia!
That Systema Solar track is excellent.
I hadn't heard it before and while the video goes well with it in the modern sense I also think it is a bit misleading as sound wise there is a lot of substance in there. On other Columbian music, I'm a bit surprised how José Hernando Noguera who was much promoted as the future of vallenato by R3 at its 2012 World Routes Academy has for the most part disappeared.Last edited by Lat-Literal; 20-06-18, 22:36.

And goodbye to Saudi Arabia.
The following selection is variable in quality but an interesting snapshot of a country where music is often opposed.
To the extent that modern stuff is made, it is currently somewhat cliched:

Omar Basaad - Can't Let Go - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTeywFWxXVk

Nigeria may have played like Zombies in the first game but not today - Moussa mesmeric in the 2nd half and suddenly coming alive. What would Fela have thought of it? A couple of Afrobeat goals from the Eagles!

'This team are a return to the Super Eagles of the 90's'
We'll see.... in the meantime, although we should have more Afrobeats, let's go back for some Talking Drums
Batile Alake's classic "Iranti Awol Owo" from the album "Waka Music Of Nigeria" (released online by Community 3 Records). This is a 5 minute promo clip taken...
Lost mine during a house fire in the 70's.....
By way of contrast, a traditional Swedish song:
