Lovely that.
a fave Boubacar Traoré track "Kar Kar Madison"
Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.
Think it may have been played by Charlie G. Says 2006 on the Youtube clip but I think it was earlier.
Start of my realisation of the huge importance of the Griots. And my general enjoyment of the same.
[being careful not to go off on a Griot/Traore swerve here, but if you have got a spare 40 mns you could do worse than this... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ExgmQPDer8k]

...as for Andy, we don't hear the Oldham Tinkers anymore, but here's an oft quoted favourite of his: Bahamanian Ronnie Butler's 'Burma Road'.

Soumik Datta was in sesson with LK.
He has a 3 episode programmme called 'Rhythms of India' starting on BBC Four on Tuesday May 21 at 21.00
Here's the write-up:
Musician and composer Soumik Datta presents a musical travelogue around India. From a spectacular religious festival in Kerala to folk musicians in the deserts of Rajasthan, intimate performances on the banks of the Ganges to encounters with Delhi's hip hop superstars, Soumik takes us on an entertaining journey celebrating India’s remarkable musical diversity. Meeting and performing with folk, classical and pop musicians, he travels from the biggest cities to the most remote communities, exploring how music helps us understand India’s past and its rapidly changing present.
Soumik begins his journey in Kolkata, the city of his birth and the place where he learned to play the traditional Indian classical instrument, the sarod. Travelling from north to south, Soumik discovers how the ancient music of palaces and temples, India’s classical music, reveals two very different cultures and traditions - and tells a story of the role conquest and empire played in shaping the nation.

A bit of Rai on last night's show from Algerian/ French combo Sofiane Saidi and Mazalda, and very enjoyable they were. But most of all I enjoyed the Road Trip to Guizhou province of China with Mu Qian - folk music sounds I have never heard before, particularly the cicadas. Well worth a listen to the 15 mins.
Actually, after listening to it a second time I would say that Mu Qian has produced a fascinating road trip.

The 8 tracks that made up the Music Planet World Mix was very good last night.
Listen without limits, with BBC Sounds. Catch the latest music tracks, discover binge-worthy podcasts, or listen to radio shows – all whenever you want
My favourite was by Ream Daranoi, track from a 2012 album, Sound of Siam, Vol 1 Leftfield Luk Thung and Jazz and Molam in Thaliand 1964-1975.*
Spotty link to the album?
* Luk Thung and Molam are both types of country music - think Molam is the older genre.

Good final, I suppose, Music Planet mixtape last week with Thomas Mapfumo and Violetta Parra among others. My favourite over the last couple of weeks was this track from last week.

Enjoyed Music Planet yesterday afternoon. Reminded me of the days when World Routes was on Saturday afternoon. In particular, really liked the track by Alash Ensemble - 'Ancestors', and also the opening track by the wonderful Aziza Brahim. Lopa sounded quite relaxed. Mind you, I've never been convinced that Zap Mama could be described as a classic artist.
