According to 'The Penguin Guide To Blues' it appears on 'The Greatest Songsters 1927-1929'(DOCUMENT DOCD-5003). Wish I could find a copy!

Not wishing to split hairs, GT, but I didn't think a bee could sting you twice.

            Depends on the bee...
Honeybees and killer bees are only able to sting their victims once, while bumble bees can sting more than once because their stingers are smooth and do not get caught in the victim's skin when they go to fly away. Carpenter bees are also able to sting over and over again due to their stingers not being hooked or barbed.
Mind you , with the price of that CD set we don't want to get stung at all...

Thanks for the response, GT, and glad that you didn't give me a waspish riposte following my less than precise entomological intervention; hive now adjusted my knowledge database.

Ye olde Calendar on the kitchen wall informs me that on this day in 1924 in Vinton, Louisiana, Clarence 'Gatemouth' Brown was born. It would seem he got the name 'Gatemouth' from a teacher who said he had a voice like a gate...whatever that is. It would appear he also had a guitar wielding brother called Jimmy 'Widemouth' Brown. Although starting out as a bluesman, Clarence embraced many different styles - here he is with a right R'n'B rocker 'Okie Dokie Stomp'.

                  Well Petroc says...
“ Today, according to John Corrigan’s Nice Blues Calendar is the birthday of the Mother of the Blues, Ma Rainey”.

We’d better have at least 1 track by her then.

Thank you Petroc, Ma Rainey and the silent Bo Weevil.

You've got to be up early in the morning to get in front of Petroc GT. Gertrude Pridgett was born 26th April, 1886 in Columbus, Georgia. She got the name Ma Rainey when she married Will 'Pa' Rainey and among other titles, toured as Rainey and Rainey, the Assassinators of the Blues. She made her first recording in 1923, bridging vaudeville and early southern blues. She was highly influential on Bessie Smith, of course.
Here she is in 1924 with 'See See Rider' which she wrote, and is accompanied here by Louis Armstrong.
Ma Rainey (April 26, 1886-December 22, 1939)See see, Rider. ...See what you done.
