The original of this song is on you tube, which you have probably already posted, John; but anyway I thought of you and Global, in particular, when I came across this article in yesterday's Observer. They've been reading your mail!

Excellent - thanks Padraig.
Best music I've heard all day...(so far)
more acapella from The Persuasions singing a Dylan composed track...
I love the drama they inject into this

The Imagined Village have reformed and will be touring in 2022.
Here they are from 2008, when the world was young, doing a version of Cold, Haily, Rainy Night. Featuring Johnny Khalsi on Dhol drum

Listening to Maconie's Freakzone last night, I heard a strange version of 'Amazing Grace' and it brought this one to mind. I used to have the single of the Great Awakening - wonder if it's still in a box somewhere. Apparently it was the theme music for the IoW Festival., Still sounds great. Apparently somebody from Country Joe and the Fish was the person responsible. Better than the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards, I reckon.

I was supposed to go see Randy Newman this week, but he's having an op, so postponed till later in the year. In the meantime, there's always the Tiny Desk from five years back with his take on the World's present most detested man award winner...among other great tunes.
Oct. 10, 2017 | Bob Boilen -- I think Randy Newman is a national treasure. If he was just a funny guy making music, I'd be OK with that, but his wit is sardo...
Get well soon, Randy...the world needs you.

I think it's Monday - all this clock changing gets the old brain confused - so here's a bit bluegrass from the latest release from Smithsonian Folkways, The Po' Ramblin' Boys with "Take My Ashes To The River"

While out in the Hebrides this last week I read 'The Gallows Pole' by Benjamin Myers, about King David Hartley and the Cragg Vale Coiners, in and around the Calder Valley of West Yorkshire in the 1760s. Loved the book - finished it in two days - great language, great description of the life and times and a real history lesson for me. I noticed in the index of the book that Steve Tilston had done a song about the coiners so thought I'd slip it in for an idiosyncratic Monday.
