Took a wee wander into the local chazza in Alyth last week to see if I could pick up any bargains and among the finds chanced on a CD of Yiddish Music and Song - filled with the familiar, unfamiiliar, as well as tracks that didn't sound Yiddish at all to me. Anyway, it was well worth the 50p, and from it here's Ben Zimet singing 'Lomir Zich Iberbetn'.

More Klezmer ! This fellow is partcularly jolly; shame he doesn't know all the words - in my fantasy musical world we'd get him dueting with Ranking R.

Among the assorted Englebert (the other one), Bennett and Doddy LPs in the local chazza, I came upon a Chet Atkins record - seemed in reasonable condition, so I handed over the 50p. Chet Atkins is one of these people you hear quoted as one of the greats, and listening to this record you can hear why. But it also explains why I haven't heard anything much by him - it really does come under the description 'Easy Listening', but what brilliant work - here's an example with a great take on the 'Wabash Cannonball', for this particular idiosyncratic Monday.
Chet was so good with that guitar, that he could almost paint a picture with those strings. Just listen to this cut of Wabash Cannonball, and close your eyes...

Just heard this fine track on the radio, and seemed idiosyncratically beautiful enough to be posted on this here Monday - Virginia Astley from 1983 playing 'Out on the Lawn I Lie in Bed'....I'd never heard of her before.

Not being part of the TikTok generation, you'll be surprised to hear, I hadn't heard of the Khaen, but here's Hal Walker giving a demo in a building site. Idiosyncratic enough for a midsummer Monday, I reckon.

It does look like the same guy, but it sounds like somebody totally different, Global...he sounds kinda worked up about something. I kinda got into the swing of it about half way through, though my Monday morning persona preferred the Mamadou of old.
It reminded me that I decided to check on the youngsters yesterday evening and took in a spot of Kendrick Lamaar from the Pyramid Stage - he sounded angry about something too; I just couldn't figure out what...I stuck around for over half-an-hour but he was awfully sweary. I prefer my protest sort of old school, to be frank...or Neil!

....I looked in on Glasto too - took in Megan Thee Stallion [rapper]....the brief view I had seemed to involve - 10-15 Hippo's and Water Buffaloes clad in leather thongs trooping around the stage (all very pleased with themselves)....(hope I am not being unkind)............however everybody in the audience seemed to know the lyrics......bit disappointed so many USA artists dominating and ego tripping on the stages [Kendrick Lamarr wearing crown of thorns], when so many UK bands/artists about.......................three great Glasto moments ELBOW [as usual] (tear to the eye)....Holly Humberstone....JARV (is) <Jarvis Cocker having to run the gauntlet of an afternoon slot plus tech problems....>....my final thought - a lot of urban rubbish/Product on display....4/10 via TV coverage...

Pablum is a word you don't hear much nowadays.

I notice that Kendrick has won a Pulitzer Prize for his lyrics.
