Long time viewers of our sub-forum may be aware that I've a sister in Vanuatu. She sent me a track by Paran Latan, an all-woman outfit - band name translates as 'Women of Tanna' - here's "Awe koloini" - great vocals, I thought, but a bit heavy on the fiddle.

By the way, Tanna is one of the larger islands of the Vanuatan Archipelago, and renowned for its volcano, among other things.

Bit samey to my jaundiced Western ears but there's no doubting the passion in their voices.
Someone in the UK could always upload a clip here:
Might end up on LJ....

Don't often get things from Afghanistan but here's a recent delight from London jazzers Kefaya with Afghan singer Elaha Soroor titled Jama Narenji from the record 'Songs of our Mothers'

Too easy to forget about the wealth of great music from Ethiopia.
Wet random Sundays are a good time to revisit them. Especially when you're meant to be doing something else...
Here's an unclassifiable great called African Market by Alemayahu Estete & Tilahun Gessesse

Led here by the soundtrack from Noughts + Crosses, here is the might Alhaji K Frimpong and his Cubano Fiestas. 1976.
"Come back my love"
Indeed.
(Maybe you won't click through - if so you'll miss one of the best album covers of all time.)

There's not many female Tuvan throat groups out there, but here is Tyva Kyzy, a five-piece, formed over twenty years ago. They sing accompanied by the chadagan (zither), among other instruments - this song is 'Tozhama'. A record is due out pretty soon.
