Interviews from Kenya about an “Economic Partnership Agreement” (EPA) mark the core of ten compositions by Sven Kacirek and Daniel Mburu Muhuni. They have spoken to dozens of people affected by this free trade agreement between the EU and the African Pacific Countries. While EPA is being negotiated mainly outside of the limelight of international attention, this album is an approach to shed a critical light onto the complex circumstances and inhumane side effects of global trade.
This is a musical oral history. The spoken words are the vocals of the tracks. The artists have left the rhythm and tonality of the voices untouched. The statements are simply collaged into subthemes. Subsequently, Kacirek and Muhuni have dubbed the voices with their instruments (mallets, piano, percussion, synthesizer, and many more).
The result is nothing less than a mesmerizing stream of consciousness.

The film footage last night was also unexpected - the new President and his Vice President were in tears but they really didn't look like tears of joy. They were more like a "what on earth have we taken on here?"

I'm getting a bit cynical about how they pick these presenters....
And the real shame is that Emahoy Tsegué-Maryam Guèbrou has such a small recorded output.

By the way, I think r3 should consider allowing Kate Molleson a shot at Wo3, for a variety of reasons including her appraisal of Emahoy (below) plus the fact she does actually work for r3 from time to time plus her obvious interest in and talented writing about the right sort of subject areas.

Georgia didn't have me racing to buy any tunes on her recommendation, Global. Afraid I could vision the autocue rolling away in front of her.

A couple of pals went to the Bothy Culture gig and loved it - sounded like a great night. Meanwhile I was hanging out across the river with Chris Wood and happily so. Yeah, she sounds interesting...someone with a bit of verve would be good.

Thank you. I have fallen a bit behind on music as I have been focussing on comedy. However, it's always great to hear the fantastic Emahoy Tsegue Maryam Guebrou. She was 94 in December. I'm still a bit puzzled by the trip that she was said to have made to Britain in the last year or two. Did she - and did she perform? I am beginning to think that she didn't.
