Talented musicians too - and what a lovely voice. Must admit I'd never heard of her. Thanks for sharing, John!

Here's 'Sodade' , pianorak - it has that great Portugese/Brazilian feel about it, but Cape Verde has a sense all its own.
Cesaria Evora with one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard!Hope you enjoy!

Thanks again, John. Would you agree that there is some similarity with the Portuguese Fado? Évora sang in Kriolu, a Creole language mixing Portuguese with the west African dialects of her enslaved ancestors. The minor-key morna ballads she sang with such stoic feeling reflected themes of loss, poverty and immigration – all constants to Cape Verdeans. [Guardian obituary]

            Thursday already?

If fusion is the name of the game then Bokanté playing Jou Ké Ouvè can certainly have this slot.

Long time since I've enjoyed guitar playing of this sort quite as much...wonder if it's my new speaker setup?

Bokanté - Jou Ké OuvèFrom the album "Strange Circles," out now on GroundUP Music.***Please set to HD (or at least 480p).Digital: http://radi.al/BokanteAppleP...

Cor Blimey O'Reilly! This week's flying by. Next thing I know it'll be Christmas.

Yeah a fine dirty guitar at work there GT - I imagine with a name like Malika, the singer was bound to get into music. Given the uncertainty I'll head to Haiti, if you don't mind.

You missed Christmas JC - a fine time, deep snow, freezing cold. Oh, hang on - that's August.

Anyway, you're right. No movement without rhythm

I shouldn't set foot in the Kilburn/ Notting Hill area with that attitude, Mahn!

Ah, I wasn't intending to suggest that the British Caribbean should be excluded but rather to justify the inclusion of Guyana.

I notice that 'Introducing...Ruben Gonzalez' has just been re-released with extra track...maybe not enough to go back and buy again but enough to roll Ruben out for a Caribbean Thursday.
