I like to think London would have listened to this, by these two old sea dogs, Global.

This turned up on the radio last night - Queen Tiney and the Agrovators (aka Hortense Ellis) doing a dub 'Natty Dread Time', that has the same backing, loosely speaking, as Althea and Donna's No. 1 from the same sort of time.

It was played in the second hour of Gideon Coe's show on 6 last evening, all Reggae, dub etc - first hour was all rock'n'roll and third hour was African, featuring a Four Brothers' BBC Session. Great listening.
A Sound Systems Special featuring 3 hours of Rock'n'Roll, Reggae & Dub & African sounds.

It's a while since the Bahamas popped up on a Thursday but, courtesy of a Joe Boyd playlist, Frederick McQueen appeared singing 'Jesus Will Be Your Friend', which was brought to many people's attention some time later on the first Kate and Anna McGarrigle record.

The Skylarks are long gone from the Angus fields, so till next year I'll have to rely on Horace Andy for a spot of 'Skylarking'...think he might have something else in mind, right enough. Still, ideal for a dreich Caribbean Thursday.

by the way, on an ornithological note, we had a bearded vulture in these parts till recently. Headed off now, but when the actual vultures start to gather.....definitely time to listen to some great dub.

Notice: Johnny Nash made his transition into the Light on October 6, 2020. He died peacefully of natural causes in his home surrounded by close family in Hou...

Johnny Nash died on Tuesday Oct. 6 at the age of 80. He was American but widely known for this reggae song, written when he was recovering from a cataract operation - and used by opticians in ads ever since.
The song was also used in "Cool Runnings' and "Thelma and Louise".

What is perhaps not so well known is his role in the advancement of Bob Marleys career.
When he was a joint owner of the JAD Records label, he signed Bob Marley and the Wailers to an exclusive deal in an attempt to break reggae in the US.
This did not achieve much success, so Nash took Marley to London.
As a result of concerts there, some jointly (Nash was the bigger star of course), Island Records bought the contract off JAD.
Nash’s covers of “Stir It Up” - called "You Got Soul" when he recorded it - and “Guava Jelly” further helped expose Marley and his writing to a general audience.

Yeah, but bet they didn't make the mistake I did...the Johnny Nash's cover of "Stir It Up" was called, er, "Stir It Up"!

Also did they mention that the story is that Nash heard Marley sing at a party in Kingston? Loved his songs but thought his voice was weak, so was interested in him initially as a songwriter. So he made mistakes too.
