...and talking of special, Mark Coles had a very good show this week. Among others he played a couple of tracks from a forthcoming Rough Guide CD - the Rough Guide to Music without Frontiers, supported by an organisation 'Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization (UNPO)'. MC played a track by Ali Mohammed Birra who I hadn't realised is one of the Oromo people who inhabit an area in Ethiopia, Eritrea and Sudan (I think he said) - I had just assumed he was Ethiopian. He also played a fine Corsican song. The blurb for the forthcoming comp says it celebrates the remarkable and diverse music of the indigenous peoples and minorities living in unrecognised or occupied territories around the world. Anyway it was pretty terrific, though we know that about Mr Birra anyway thanks to your fine Ethiopiques playlist collection, Global.

Thanks jc - I loved the live version of The Wave by Alejandro Escovado, always been a favourite tune, never heard it live before, made even more poignant as he explained the origin of the lyric. an everyday epic story of humanity...

I've heard this very fine song three times on the radio in the last week or so. Then yesterday with the plethora of political leaders swarming around up here, reacting to the weekend polls and telling us how much they loved Scotland and us all , rather than their keys to the ministerial Jag (and our drams) of course, I thought it a most appropriate song for the campaign.
