Meanwhile, on Tuesday morning Petroc played an Iranian oud track, by Yair Dalal couldn't find that one, but these, by the same artist, are worth a listen.
the first a live performance from 2012
Yair Dalal and Dror Sinai, performing at the UCSC Recital Hall, February 3, 2012.Santa Cruz, California
and, as an added bonus, here's one of those wonderfully useless bits of info that Google specialise in.
The number of times the word oud, Oud and OUD is mentioned in English books (which Mr. Google knows about) in the period 1800-2008

A couple of years back I read James Kelman's novel 'Dirt Road' about a Scottish boy and his Father, who visit their relatives in Southern United States. The boy, Murdo, is an accordionist and rediscovers music. I really enjoyed the book and last night on the BBC Scotland channel they showed a film loosely based on the book called 'Dirt Road to Lafayette'. It was quite enjoyable but what was really enjoyable was the music - some wonderful songs and tunes...zydeco, Cajun, texmex among others.

Friday 6 September - The Other Iran
For anyone who have braved it/made love/drunk themselves silly/not been back-beaten into mush/slept through tonight's relentless Jules Buckley dedication to 70s Funk, this programme, which is a repeat, nevetherless looks interesting:
10.15pm - The Other Iran
Harpsichordist Mahan Esfahani, born in Iran but raised in the USA, explores how the division of Azari territories between Russia and Persia in 1828 resulted in two very different musical cultures. The people of the north, now the Republic of Azerbaijan, enjoy a wealth of classical music culture, while for their southern neighbours, in what is now the Islamic Republic of Iran, this culture is almost beyond reach. Esfahani visits the Azerbaijani capital of Baku and talks to musicians from both countries.

Bit out of date I suppose, but still interesting and most enjoyable tunes played in a high rise in Tehran.Last edited by johncorrigan; 07-09-19, 10:39.

Wonder if they'll do any lining out? Or talk about connections with Sacred Harp?
