That is a very nice memory John. I like that very much. Probably best not to say here my exact date of birth but I first arrived home on the Boxing Day. That was the day the snow started and lasted until about the autumn.

Wild!!
By the way, R4's 'Great Lives' with the 'a bit boring' Matthew Paris has started again - Kirsty's set up for next week with one of Andy's old pals (I found out while reading Nooff's Witch) - there's that good story of him getting chased by Little Richard when LR was on the Janice Long show. Actually, one time Andy played LR doing Old MacDonald's Farm - I'd like to hear that again - it was a gas! Anyway, back to 'Great Lives' with MP & JL!

The JCC programme was funny. Hook handled the interview well considering. Of course, JCC will be the interviewer next week. That could be interesting. I would like him to read a poem or two. It seemed odd that there were no poems in the first.
The one about Kirsty MacColl was pretty good. I always love to hear Kirsty on the radio even if the programme tells me what I know. Actually, some of the relationship with her father was unknown to me. I would though have liked to have heard Jean mentioned more.Last edited by Guest; 14-08-11, 09:26.

As I said, every word that came from JCC's mouth sounded like poetry to me. Just the thought of Nico in Salford reminded me that somewhere around the turn of the millennium I heard a 'Good Read' on R4 and someone was talking about a book about that very thing - I got it and read it and it was indeed a good read - maybe even great! I looked it up there - 'Nico, songs they never play on the radio' by James Young who played keyboard with her for the last six or seven years of her life. Totally wild, I seem to recall.
... but I never knew that JCC had been in the Sopranos.

Dropped into the Oval to check the score - rain stopped play; but instead of the litanies celebrating the great British Victoria Sponge, the common or garden pigeons, the passing routemasters and the hoards of Mr Blobbies, Aggers, Blowers, Tuffers and the other effers and jeffers were being entertained by Raghers Dixit - and a very pleasant five or six minutes it was even if he isn't totally my cup of Rosie.

Anyone recall Toumani Diabate's recent homage to the same feller? Only a few notes on the kora but they fell like pearls before the shortsighted.
A microscopic review on our very own Proms board here:

Thanks GT. I like Morricone. Sometimes R4's determination to become another music station has its plus points. They did a documentary a couple of years ago and it introduced me to this far-better-than-the-average confectionery -
Sigla della trasmissione "Aria condizionata", questa canzone annovera tra i suoi autori Maurizio Costanzo, autore del testo insieme a Ghigo De Chiara. Grande...
(And I do mean that wholly positively. It is a great song. As for Ms Mazzini, she was groundbreaking, even controversial, in her day. While some might say a forerunner to Madonna, there was far more art there I think, perhaps a la Nico. There is a most peculiar YT clip of this song featuring her at a railway station - no Rosetta Tharpe but still beguiling. And that hat just after 1.25 on this one was clearly the original blueprint for those worn everywhere by young royals today).Last edited by Guest; 26-08-11, 23:23.

I hesitate to unreservedly recommend it - suspect it may be a bit of a specialised taste? But if you listen to some of the music we talk about on this particular board then you may well enjoy it. And I suspect some of the jazzers would too.
Compared to the Comedy Prom (ouch - give that short shrift) it was generally a delight.
A big to whoever puts together the Proms for their breadth this year though.

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.
.......no way!
Short shrift right enough Global! I'll try that other lot this week however.
While I'm here I should mention that I caught the first hour of Cerys yesterday - I mean you can't argue with an hour of that - well I couldn't anyway!
