Today's programme was IMO the best ever of the Radio 3 world music shows by quite a long way. Let's hope it gets tucked away in an archive for continued listening pleasure. Archiving the whole Barbican Concert might not be a bad idea either. Wish I could have been there in person!!

Martin. Thanks for the recommendation. I have just listened to the programme and it was terrific. The collaboration works very well, some of the solos are outstanding, and of course there is the recent historical context. Great that the project was finally completed. I too like "Jarabi" - "mesmeric" is the word - but everything involving Diabate and Ochoa appeals.

The Royal Albert Hall in June. Perhaps this means Charlton Park later in the summer. Let's hope so. Lat.

Wonder if it was filmed - what a great groove they got into and Lucy allowed just enough time for a bit of background leaving plenty for the sounds - World Routes at its best.

I agree - this was a terrific concert, a visceral feel-good groove, wished I had been able to go. The musicians played well together in an almost supernatural way.

We should drop Lucy an email and ask her if it was filmed...where's PS when you need him and his inside track.

I've just listened. It was interesting but I wouldn't say astounding. It sounded more a clash than a collaboration. My feelings are best described by copying Harry Hill's piece. I like Cuban music. And I like Malian music. But which is better....?*

I worry that if I suggest the CD for my Christmas stocking, by Easter it'll be on the dusty shelf keeping Soul Science company.

Ian, using your Harry Hill approach suggests that Cuban music would beat Malian music in a fight - not sure that I would wholeheartedly agree. But I do think that Afrocubism knocks spots off Soul Science - bet they're better live too.
