I picked up a Carlos Gardel CD in a local chazza the other day and for the princely sum of 50p I might add; and a very fine buy it is proving to be. I thought I'd post Je Te Dirai', which even with my rudimentary skills in the language I realised was French, and thought it would grace just about any French Wednesday, so why not this one.

I was listening to a spotify playlist from ten years ago that was created by a few of the contributors of old from around these parts - a couple of hundred great world music tracks - this one caught my attention among the many delights. This is the Léo Ferré song 'Avec Le Temps' performed by Marc Ogeret, posted originally by Lat back in 2012 - anyway it stopped me in my tracks while weeding in the garden on Monday, and I thought I would give it a French Wednesday spin.

Like my holidays, the forum hiatus seems to be drifting into memory, but I don't think French Wednesdays should head on without marking the recent death of Jane Birkin...here's all you need to know about her in one song...at least it was in 1969. Not the greatest singer perhaps, but somehow it doesn't matter.

My pal went to see American singer, Cécile McLorin Salvant, at an event in the Embra Festival at the weekend and declared Cécile and her band fantastic - he said she performed this song in French, 'Doudou' - here she is performing with a pianist and Djembe player for a mercredi.

Edith Piaf died sixty years ago yesterday - I believe there's a programme about Edith and Cocteau on the Radio 4 extra today (https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m001r84m). What about 'Milord' live on the Ed Sullivan Show in '59 for this particular French Wednesday. It seems Jean Cocteau died the day after Edith, sixty years ago today.

Cleoma and her husband made the first known commercial recording of Cajun music. [Arhoolie I think]
