Especially on Fête de la Musique, Charles Trenet again, in one of the most uplifting songs I know. A reminder that he began his career as "le fou chantant".

    film "Je chante" 1938http://www.paroles.net/chansons/23712.htm

C'est la vie qui va toujours
    Vive la vie
    Vive l'amour

    Le cœur empli de tendresse
    Stop ! Arrêtez-vous un instant
    Écoutez la marche du temps...
    Voici la vie

    {au Refrain}

    La vie va mieux
    La vie va mieux
    Pour vous et pour moi
C'est la vie qui va !

For those who have read this far, a reminder that Kevin Kline gave a remarkable performance of La Mer (Trenet's not Darin's) in the closing credits of "French Kiss". Kline was a replacement for Depardieu, so he played the part as GD. (but, mercifully, sings better).

Thanks Alain. Terrific. In looks Trenet reminds me of a cross between Harpo Marx and Gene Wilder.

Before the dying of the day a wee bit of Zydeco courtesy of Clifton Chenier.
Clifton's first hit. Produced by Bumps Blackwell."Ay Tete Fille (Hey, Little Girl)," is a cover of a Professor Longhair tune, released in May 1955

Manu Chao with Amadou & Mariam's 'Sénégal Fast Food' could turn up any day of the week here these days, but offers a chance to bop your way through Mercredi even though it's a Dimanche kinda song. Great vid. Play loud!

....have been listening to the music in all of the clips from the past four or five pages. Mostly good. None atrocious although I am not sure I am joining the Carla Bruni fan club. Amadou and Mariam and Clifton Chenier are in my record collection. Lucienne Boyer and Sir Lancelot aren't so and I was especially struck by those tracks. Francoise Atlan is doing a Yasmin Levy. The second MHD clip had some merit but I thought JC's comments were spot on - "Often feel that hip hop is best in French - the language seems to lend itself to the medium. Not keen on his voice modulation machine bits, mind you...that bugged me in the previous track you posted by MHD too - always gets me" although Frampton is fine for running with it early. The funny song could be from an Austin Powers film or Flight of the Conchords. I could choose to be slightly squeamish about "The Fur Trade" but am content with it so far as it is heritage.

I like that Lo'Jo, Lat...but it's Bastille Day, French rider Barguil won a really exciting stage in the Tour de France, and it seemed appropriate to break tradition with Serge's 'La Marseillaise', just for today.

Well, how long have we known each other JC, and I never knew you were a fellow cyclo-fan.

Here then, a cool live Euro version....from possibly the most exciting live performers the world has ever known.

You might wonder how I arrived at the title. If I can hum the tune my wife will provide the words. She's got quite a repertoire.

Saw them outdoors in Spain on that tour - at "Beni" - same year I think - what time of the day was it? - around 2am or 3am ish.

Atmospheric - and an ambition fulfilled.

Did you spot "Milk Float" on last night's Late Junction? Had never heard it before. Interesting but I didn't know what to think of it.

Thanks JC - my difficulty with the Tour de France is that I don't understand the scoring.

                            Lovely scenery though.
