For her playlist in 'Songlines' this last month, Lopa also chose Martha Wainwright doing Edith Piaf's 'Soudain Une Vallée', and I thought it would make a fine entry for a French Wednesday, with her beautiful, slightly fragile voice - there's definitely a bit of her Mum in there.

An internet radio station which plays only French classical music has recently become one of my favourite standby alternatives to R3. Bru Zane Classical Radio, based in Venice, plays a good choice of music non-stop with no announcements and in good sound.
