Francis Bebey lived in France in the 70's and died there in May 2001. He's originally from the Cameroons which does have some history when it comes to France. I'm therefore confident this means he is permitted for today's French entry, a much loved classic of this quiet corner.

First heard on Future Vintage's excellent radioshow on Red Light Radio. Check out futurevintage.net and redlightradio.net.

For cellists everywhere, whether they play 'World Music' or not....wonder what he was playing?
Whatever it was, he had guts! Oh, and thanks for temporarily taking my mind of Bl**dy Br*xit.

Given the news from Paris this week, thought Edith Piaf appropriate for un mercredi Francais.

Dans les Rues d'Antibes, where one might come across a marching band with New Orleans credentials.

We were in a lovely bar in Edinburgh last evening, GT, called 'Ventoux' and with a sister bar down in Leith called 'Tourmalet', and very nicely Tour themed I have to say. Beer was good too! Glad I didn't have to cycle home. Nice wee tune, by the way.

This CD of field recordings just keeps giving. This song was recorded in June 1934 in New Iberia, Louisiana by Alan and his Father, John Lomax. They heard by chance the girls singing outside the family home - Sept Ans Sur Mer by Elita, Mary, And Ella Hoffpauir, the song is about a party adrift at sea for six years, and then in the seventh they run out of food. Ideal for a French Wednesday, don't you think?
