Still catching up on a few things that were on when I was out west and came across 'The Essay...Folk at Home' with Verity and in this case Lisa O'Neill in Dublin. A couple of crackin' tunes in there.
From her apartment in Dublin, Lisa O’Neill shares songs she’s written in recent months.

By the way, Global, I think that Lankum version of 'Wild Rover' may be the best I ever heard. Fantastic...reminded me of Fairport at their best.

A classical suite, you might say, from a traditional ensemble.

That Steve Cooney fella fair gets around, Padraig, which I would have thought difficult without shoes. Fine tunes there. When I think of an Irish Suite I still find it difficult to think beyond Brendan.

You might enjoy Dublin Guitar Quartet's Tiny Desk performance for another Irish Friday. Reichian, I would say!

Don't ask the members of the Dublin Guitar Quartet to play the time-honored classics of the Spanish repertoire. They might play traditional Spanish style cla...

I certainly did john. I wonder did the quartet bump into Darragh Morgan, a fellow Irishman, and one-time violinist in the Smith Quartet. They put out a CD in 2007 of Philip Glass's String Quartets. They go well on guitars. What a cool group.

I had been thinking along different lines altogether for Irish Friday. I found this video fascinating as a warm and enthusiastic performance of what might seem an unpromising scenario - a load of priests discussing Masses. It's not Father Ted , but I saw it through to the end, and worth it it was, but you can edit it to suit yourself. Sean and Peadar O Riada and their music feature in the video.

I continue to be fascinated by The Doveman, aka Thomas Bartlett on piano. For me he adds something special that I don't hear anywhere else, and it shows in The Gloaming's video. Quite a guy!

For a slightly more uproarious Irish Friday at the end of summer I found myself wishing I had been in Galway this day!

In the days of Mike McWilliams, and The Little Gaelic Singers in pre-Troubles Derry, traditional folk was in short supply. Instead we had songs with appeal to exiles like this one. McWilliams was the singer in a local dance band - and pretty good it was - and the Little Singers were the pupils of the local McCafferty School whose teacher was also the pianist in the same dance band and on this track. Dana was a member of the Singers at some stage - pre-Eurovision success. I at that time had been recently allowed to go to dances so my main interest was centred on the dance band and not at all on traditional Irish music - I'm a Johnny-come-lately, and now suffer the consequences.

Here's one where Steve Cooney has his shoes on. A Carolan Air, and an even more famous Air not by Carolan.

Steve Cooney performs two airs on the guitar associated with the ancient harp tradition of Ireland - Bridget Cruise [composed by Turlough O'Carolan] (Air 0:0...

Arrived yesterday, played today - E J Moeran songs. Prompted by our Bargains thread which drew attention to the special offers now on the Chandos site. Great value - a twofer for a fiver. New to me and I'm greatly enjoying Roderick Williams and Geraldine McGreevy ..... also Weybridge Male Voices in some robust sea-shantying.

Hard to avoid Sir Van this Irish Friday morning, but I'll steer away from the corona-controversy and go for 'The Healing Game' from twenty-odd years ago instead.

John, in haste, you'll have to listen to this morning's Essential Classics. Second item. I'm keeping you in suspense, but it is a real Irish Friday Classic - Essential even.
