To keep the Green Flag flying, here is a hornpipe to follow that topical Irish Air. It is called the Derry Hornpipe, and I must have heard it a thousand times in my time without knowing it had such a title. Each year Derry has a Feis, a Festival of Music, Dance and Speech. Irish Dancing was a major element - which explains how certain tunes got into your bones after tears of attendance. It was not all traditional; classical music had a place too. The performers here were students of a Dublin Music School and their take on a traditional Irish tune might offer some interesting comparisons. I don't think they ever played for the dancers at Feis Doire Colmcille.Originally posted by Padraig View Post
