Here's a song the tune of which I know well. The words are magical and I think you'll see why when you read them with the translation. It's a modern arrangement of a childen's song sung by Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh - that's McAuley to us Global.
Topic Records have re-released Dick Gaughan's 'Handful of Earth', so Scottish he may be, but here's Dick's version of 'Lough Erne/First Kiss at Parting' for this particular Irish Friday.
From his album 'HANDFUL OF EARTH'.I am a rambling IrishmanIn Ulster I was born And many's the happy hour I spentBy the banks of sweet Lough ErneFor to live p...
It’s a Christy Moore song, here sung by D’Arcy Broderick.
Called Nancy Spain after the legendary female journalist.
Bit saccharine sweet for my taste but worth a post I thought...
An Irish song but sung by a Scot; a Christy Moore song, sung by somebody else. How to reconcile this information?
So. Here is an Irish tune, but it is not a song; it's played by a group which once included Christy Moore.
The tune is called Planxty Hewlett. I don't know who Hewlett was, but he must have been important enough to have a tune in his honour composed by Carolan. The group was, of course, Planxty, forever associated with Turlough O Carolan.
Well, I've been looking for a song on the theme of 'Is oth leis a bheith Béarla' hmm... can't find anything so perhaps better to have something a bit calming

Global, forgive me if I have misunderstood your Irish (I'm not that good myself) but I make it that you regret your English and you wanted a song to express that. I don't think you meant 'being English', unless you're mixing up 'Bearla' with 'Sasanach'
'Regrets' is a good theme for a song, so here's one in Gaeilge and Bearla - Do Bhi Bean Uasal (There was once a Lady)
Seán Ó Sé - Do Bhí Bean Uasal.Do Bhí Bean UasalDo bhí bean uasal seal dá lua liom,'s chuir sí suas díom fóraíl ghéar;Do ghabhas lastuas di sna bailte móraMar...

"Rock The Machine" from Lisa's album "Heard A Long Gone Song" on River Lea, an imprint of Rough Trade Records.Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Heard-Long-Gon...
I'm losing will love
My hands are soft as cotton gloves
Machine has eaten up my job
My meaning, my cause.
Machine with the strength of a hundred men,
Can't feed and clothe my children,
Can't greet a sailor coming in,
Or know of desperation.
I shovel coal down Spencer's dock.
I took your dear into Wedlock.
In you did bear us a beautiful flock,
We will rock the machine down on the dock.
We will rock the machine until it stops.
Oh Lo' if you show me gold!
Like a herring I will go.
Roaring liffy when you're high
Like a cormorant I will dive.
The cold wind flow I will rise,
We're going off to win back time.
We're going off to win back pride.
We will rock the machine until it dies.
Today dear I'm unemployed.
Before I spoke you read my eyes. I feared…
