Hey there, Global...I hope you're not going bad mouthing Val there, me Mum's old favourite (well him and the Bachelors anyway!). I was very interested in Aisling - I had not heard that word before except as the name of the rather excellent Irish Comedian, Aisling Bee.
I like the idea of the Aisling, the Vision/dream song, with Ireland represented as a beautiful woman asking for the help of the singer.

Aisling Bee aka Aisling Cliodhnadh O'Sullivan, which I think translates as 'O'Sullivan's dream of love'. Cool name for your daughter.
Sadly doesn't always work, Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh (of Gloaming fame) in English is Kevin O'Reilly.

Iarla O'lionaird is, in English, Earl of the Lantern, or possibly Earl O'clock.

      Cheers,

Now I know why most people just call him Carolan! But of course you Irish speakers are very particular.

That Farewell to Music is a great piece and quite exceptional even for Carolan.

I found myself on Wednesday night in a pub in Co Wicklow which happened to have its regular Wednesday night session going strong. It's years since I had that kind of luck. Fiddle, flute, button key, banjo and two guitars were giving it their all, but I had to leave after too short a time.

if you could hear me struggle with irregular verbs....by the way Pol and Muire have now moved onto (as you suggested) bainne and ris and thankfully leabhair a léamh. Probably nothing by Myles na gCopaleen though..

sounds wonderful when you drop onto something like that. We're off to Sligo in August, so fingers crossed.

Sure isn't Sligeach the lovely place in Lunasa.

I'm off to Bellaghy tomorrow to hear the Unthanks.

Meanwhile here's Brendan Behan with The Coolin, an old air.

                    Exactly!

I thought Thursday was Friday, so when I said that I was going to Bellaghy tomorrow, I really meant Saturday because I got the days mixed up and I thought Saturday was tomorrow when tomorrow was really Friday. So let's be clear (now there's a great word) about this: tomorrow is not Friday, it's Saturday because today is Friday... am I rambling?

I like Cathy Jordan and Dervish - top of the pops.

June is bursting out all over here, Padraig...hope you have a great time with Rachel and Becky in Bellaghy today. I've just had the possibility of a return to Bellaghy in August with a ticket from my pal to see Van there as part of the draw...hopeful, but not holding my breath. Might get a chance to explore the area this time...last time it was bucketing with rain.

Rachel, Becky and Niopha. Just the three of them. They sang to a full house with humour and charm, but mainly with concentration on their songs . I soon forgot the huge band they had had on video, and so they stayed for now with pieces suitable for their unaccompanied voices. I enjoyed their recital very much.

They looked and sounded very much like the video here, as they sang what I understand is their latest 'hit', which featured on a recent television programme.

By the way, not Irish as such.

Not a fan myself although I've never seen them live. Everything they do sounds more or less the same.
Liked the song about the pigeon though (King of Rome). Can't dislike a good pigeon song....

Here's a song the tune of which I know well. The words are magical and I think you'll see why when you read them with the translation. It's a modern arrangement of a childen's song sung by Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh - that's McAuley to us Global.
