La Sonora Santanera played live from Maida vale on Cerys' show a couple of weeks ago, and then KT picked up on them for Music Planet last Saturday. Seems that they've been on the go for sixty-eight years playing their big band sound.

And re Wim Wenders, can I heartily recommend his new film 'Perfect Days', set in Tokyo if it's in a picture house anywhere near you.

Betto Arcos, who often leads us on a road trip in the Americas, was in the studio with Lopa for this week's 'Music Planet', playing a bit of musical ping pong. I particularly enjoyed his opening pick from Tlacuatzin Son Huasteco and when I went looking found this great bit of film of the quartet. Some full on howling and fiddle playing going on. It does take a minute to get through the intro but worth the wait. This is 'El Sacamandú'.
Aquí una manera casi en desuso de interpretar este son tradicional: sin la pausa característica y con "descante".
Happy Mexican Tuesday.
