I guess the image of an eagle crucified on a barbed-wire fence was intended as a comment on the border, no?

I did wonder if it was an ironic statement of some sort....the image dates from the 1930s (see the credits), contemporaneous with the recording, but was posted on You Tube in May 2016....so possibly.... [Photographs in our California collection by Dorothea Lange, 1930-39, California, Farm Security Administration/Office of War Information Black-And-White Negatives. The videos on this channel feature uncensored historical documents, which may contain offensive material. Please see channel description for copyright statement pertaining to source works.] Lots more of these stark images by Dorothea Lange presumably from the same CD booklet appear in the You Tube sidebar....

There's a photo of an almost identical fence, minus the eagle, in the booklet of an ECM CD of 16thC guitar music from Spain (all my ECM CDs feature irrelevant arty B&W photography ) ....

Of course, how stupid of me not to spot that. I was so taken with the international commonality of the barbaric practice I missed the actual point....

          Happy Mexican Tuesday.
my first video about the african presence in mexico

I was interested that Joe Boyd mentioned in one of the late podcasts (XX), that Lucy Duran was planning a record of Malian/Mexican music to celebrate Mexico's links with its African roots. I looked for further evidence but found none, but instead found this programme from the World Service of Dr Lucy in Mexico from some time last year in 'The Documentary' strand. Reminded me of an old World Routes prog...which was nice!
Mexico’s black communities feel ignored and are using culture to fight for recognition.

Happy Mexican Tuesday everyone, though it's more like Icelandic Tuesday out there this morning.
ORKESTRA MENDOZA should heat things up a bit.

Lydia Medosa sings the dark and mysterious song of the Black Wedding.

A rather pleasing translation of part is as follows:

He sat the cold remains by his side
And celebrated his vows with the dead woman
He tied the naked bones with ribbons
The bony cranium he crowned with flowers
He covered the horrible mouth with kisses
And smiling he discussed his love with her
He took the bride to the thalamus mulch
and laid beside her in love
and he remained for ever asleep
With the rigid skeleton in his arms

Oigan la historia que contóme un día,el viejo enterrador de la comarca, era un amante que por suerte impía,su dulce bien le arrebato la parca.Todas las noches...

Always like it when thalamus mulch is mentioned in the lyrics...

Wasn't Thalamus Mulch a physician in Gormenghast, G?

What a voice that Lydia Mendoza!

                            Best Mexican Tuesday yet!

How did we get from Gormenghast to a donkey jawbone? Ah yes, Mexico.

Next the food? Songs about the refried bean, melted cheese, chocolate sauce.

I have it on good authority that, after the refried beans and chocolate sauce, this is what Mexican Tuesday looks like in Lat's local.

It is more likely that people would be walking their dogs to it. There are as many dogs as people. As for the people, several of them are not the most sure footed. I was in there a month ago and a man approached me with the words "Roger" and a surname. I can't remember the surname but it was ever so friendly like. A greeting. I stopped the conversation I was having and looked at him blankly because I hadn't a clue what relevance the name had. After assuring him that I hadn't returned to the place after several years - a place that according to him I had been in virtually every day - he stormed off saying I looked like that Roger something. As far as he was concerned that is who I was and always will be.
