OK. It is 22 in total. There were so many others I could have included but these six had to be here.

Lat, Jerry Dammers is doing Jarvis' show this afternoon and is doing something on GSH apparently. I imagine that Craig Charles will do something - he played 'your soul and mine' last night and given that I've heard Gil interviewed on his show before, he may have something in the future. He does a fine playlist that CC.

Thanks for this John. I did try to listen to the repeat of 6 mix with Jamie xx but I have to be fully up for it to enjoy drum and bass. Couldn't quite get into it this morning. It felt like a sledgehammer.

Having bombarded the website with Gil's songs, I see that we still haven't got Johannesburg on here. I have rearranged the posts slightly and have added a couple of obits at #15. I guess that the new musical-look Radio 4 may do something too. Incidentally, if the Radio 4 programme on Bob Dylan, spirituality and religion is still available on I-Player, it is well worth listening to. Lat.

A well-written, I thought, obituary from the Guardian.
Poet, jazz musician and rap pioneer who used mordant lyrics to express his views on politics and culture

I found it interesting to read the verse from the 'Revolution will not be televised' having only listened to the lyrics before - strangely it was reminding me of the way that Tom Waits might later put his images together.

Many thanks John. A good article. "The father of rap" tag is not a bad one but he was right to reject it. He was so much more than that suggests and as rap devalues itself, against his advice, it is the other aspects I prefer to think of more.

I have a feeling that quite a few of his albums might not currently be available. If so, hope this will be rectified shortly. This is a rather muffled link but it has to be here really. What's the word? Johannesburg.........

I don't listen to Gilles Peterson, Lat, but I noticed this and reckoned you would be interested. I'm enjoying it as I write.

Gilles rewinds to June 2011 when soul singer Michael Kiwanuka played live in the studio.

You know what Paul, I remember tuning in after AK was run out of R1 town and thought - oh no, this guy talks over the top of records in a kinda sincere way - and much though I enjoyed the GSH, he still talks over the top in a sincere way and I doubt I won't be heading to his club again in the foreseeable future - I feel like I put him in one of these a while ago and he's not getting out.

The dj should only talk over the talk-over music.
                    Isn't that the law ?

They're a law unto themselves them club DJ types - especially when they nip into the studio on the way home from their latest bit mixing in a lounge elsewhere, Paul, like that GP chap.

But Gil still hasn't gone away - Cultue Clash radio on 6 is having a night or two on him with the Don with the shades - http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b011r1cn - why does he need those sunglasses at 12 midnight for a show? - does he think he's the Big 'O' or something? Unbelievable! Un:cool2:

No actual idea about the glasses John, but there's a chance he may need that particular tint for an eye condition.

                          do you mean photophobia?
                          I also suggest...

Thanks all. I have it on now. The most ridiculous glasses are the ones designed for making the hair see.

On GP, Gil was "quite possibly" one of the biggest influences on the programme. He had "some shows and some no shows", "some amazing and not so amazing shows". The programme "may" contain swearing. You "might" want to switch off if easily offended. Remind me. Was he a politician or a lawyer in a previous life?
