In each issue of Songlines there's a Top of the World CD with ten tracks from recently released records followed by a playlist of 5 tunes chosen by a guest. This issue it's the turn of singer Katie Melua. I've heard of her before but am unfamiliar with her music. However seems she was born and brought up in Georgia and she has included 3 very fine pieces of Georgian choral singing among the 5 tracks. So Songlines has then compiled a collection of what they term '10 Essential Polyphonic Choral Albums'. I've been having a fine time working my way through on Spotty - records from Georgia, Albania, Sardinia, Bulgaria (of course), among others. My favourite so far has been the Georgian Women's choir Sathanao.
Thought I'd start to put a few tunes in a playlist. If you'd like to add a few choice polyphones please do...or just have a listen!
