    World, jazz, schmazz, smooth, cocktail, lounge?

    Don't know...

    probably a mixture of all of them. Never come across these guys before, but heard a duo set on In Tune last week - announced forthcoming gig at Sage Gateshead - interesting! It so happened I was at a loose end as Mrs G was in across the border, in Yorkshire.

    Cracking gig fronted by the very able Miss China Forbes. Quality musicians in the band, multilingual lyrics rendered sensitively by Miss Forbes and other band members.

    Pleased you enjoyed them.

    If I am not mistaken, GT has been known to put them on a certain Christmas Spotify list.

      Thanks for posting the links, they're pretty good and I'll look out for them in future, perhaps a Proms gig soon?

          No probs - you can tell I was impressed! Hall 1 at Sage Gateshead was pretty full on all three levels (unusual in my experience) so someone must have heard of them before!

            They're on at the York Barbican on Sat Oct 29th.

            As Lat says, we have discussed them here before, but thank you OG for highlighting them again. Overdue for rediscovery.
            A few facts...
            * they sing/have sung in 10 different languages, and (imho of course)sing well in all of them, recently including Armenian and Xhosa.
            * Influences? They have a few, the ones you mention plus many many types of world music
            * Founded in '94. American.

            We don't have enough tortoise videos on here, a perfect opportunity
            Pink Martini is on tour in 2022! Tickets are on sale now at:http://pinkmartini.com/shows/"Dream a Little Dream of Me"written by Wilbur Schwandt, Gus Kahn, ...
