Interesting that Bob doesn't want any mention of Dominic Behan on the clip, JR. Behan, I seem to recall, stated that 'With God On Our Side' was a parody of his 'Patriot Game'. Certainly Bob is expert at nickin' songs or bits of songs, like the wonderful ' Blood in My Eyes' on 'World Gone Wrong' which he lifted from the Mississippi Sheiks' song 'I've Got Blood in My Eyes For You', and claimed the writing credits. Great vid, mind you, including Bob juggling, though not brilliantly.

Thanks for link. I've not played the song for a while and had never seen the video, which I greatly enjoyed (filmed in Camden). Surely unfair to refer to nicking and lifting with ref to the World Gone Wrong album, whose credits assert: "All songs traditional, arranged by Bob Dylan". In a rare exception he actually wrote liner notes in which he praises Mississippi Sheiks for their lyrics: "all their songs are raw and to the bone & are faultlessly made for these modern times (the New Dark Ages)".

Interesting to read those notes again which are juicily apocalyptic in tone with some mildly eccentric usage - all sentences beginning with a small letter & the ampersand preferred to "and". we get Bob's comments on World Gone Wrong (the songs) & observations on the world gone wrong (the place where we live).

Richie was excellent - A mixed bag and Richard P Havens 1983 I particularly like. His version of Dylan’s ‘Just like a woman’ is good too.

In the way that one thing leads to another I played World Gone Wrong with the v useful Margotin/Guesdon book as backup and realised I only had one of the two Bob-rejected outtake tracks - 32-20 Blues which is on Bootleg 8. Because I had the non Deluxe version (cheapskate) I lacked CD 3 which included Mary and the Soldier which I had never heard. Now remedied by downloading the track.
