I'm guessing it was a women's workshop, possibly on TV.
Sorry Lat. Confused you by switching between the David Attenborough string and last night's Wo3. I did post a vid clip of Karine, from a forthcoming Beeb Scotland programme. Wo3 had a longer version including the magnificent 'Cover your Eyes' last night...compulsory listening, as GT correctly put it. The 'Daily Reflections' was, I assume, the blog from the 'Songs of Separation' when the ladies were doing their Eigg stuff a year and a half ago.

Good wee tune in there last night's Wo3 from Aziza too...shame it was only one song.

Ah yes, I've "got" it now.

I really, really like her and think she stands out from the crowd.

Wo3 and the CC website next......it seems to arrive very quickly after Christmas!

I'm inclined to say that she is the finest Scottish singer/songwriter of the last 10 years, Lat. Here she is from 2009 in the Darwin Song Project with another group of collaborators and 'We're All Leaving'.

Kathryn Tickell presents new world music, plus music from Shanghai's Festival on the Green

Kathryn really hits home and reaches the spots other presenters cannot reach!

Yes, i thought both SHE was a real find as presenter, and her choices were carefully and delightfully surprising. Except that the whole Northumbrian / NE factor was strong.

Good enough for us oop 'ere!!

That was exactly my point and my sentiment! Delighted in what she is and does.

Nice to hear Lucy Duran making an appearance on last night's Wo3 Orchestra Baobab special with KT, giving her own insight into the band. 'Pirates Choice' remains one of my all-time favourite records and the show opened with 'Coumba' from that particular disc, followed by a track from 'World Routes'...I miss that programme.

I'm not sure if it was my imagination running riot, but the guests on Friday's Wo3, Cimbaliband from Hungary, passed me by almost unnoticed from their first stint at the microphone on Friday night. Then for their Heritage track they chose the magnificent Taraf de Haïdouks playing the wonderful Turceasca. It was like the band came alive after that. The following piece, TendlBeat was excellent and they finished the set really well. Taraf seemed to do the trick.

Some terrific tracks in there this week. Guo Gan and Aly Keita doing 'The Carnival of the Animals' springs to mind, but in line with the Cimbalom there were lots of wonderful dulcimer related sounds. And I'm really enjoying what I'm hearing of Rhiannon Giddens' songs from her latest record. Lots to enjoy from KT.

Did you hear Saturday Classics with KT? very interesting and a unique perspective on classical music. KT making it big time in R3! (but sounding a bit like Katie Derham?)

Thanks Obi. I recall hearing it first time it was broadcast. It was great to hear those two versions of 'Old Simon the King' again, in particular. Must go back and listen to episode 1 again.

Yes - not at all a bad programme. I fully agree on Guo Gan with Aly Keita and enjoyed many other tracks including the ones by Pauliina Syrjälä, Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars, Mandolin Man, Yishak Banjaw and Mokoomba as well as the heritage track by Taraf de Haïdouks. I thought Tendlbeat was the best one from Cimbaliband. I liked it a lot. I am not too sure about them overall though. On others' comments, much as I love Northumberland and its music, I hope KT doesn't overdo it and continues to provide an international mix.

Live set from Rokia Traore, Quantic, Kronos Quartet with some interesting guest singers...altogether it seems to me this show is back on the up, taking some risks & venturing forth. Now where's that thumbs up icon
