....and looks like she's going to be regular again.
Verity Sharp's selection includes Leszek Mozdzer, plus Cahalen Morrison and Ely West.

      zola,

      Welcome.

Do you think we might get to hear some Johnny Dowd on Radio 3 again with
the return of the excellent Ms Sharp ?

Maybe Verity'll play some of that fine Shetlander Thomas Fraser's Country, Paul - maybe one of his Jimmie Rodgers' covers.
A musical celebration of the life of Thomas Fraser. A National Theatre of Scotland production. Duncan McLean and The Lone Star Swing band, directed by Vicky ...

Actually I don't think this is one of them, but you get the idea!

I think it's good news generally for folkies and also reinforces ( re-establishes ? ) the uniqueness of the programme as not "just" a generic world music programme.

            John,
Thomas Fraser, Crumbs ... I'm an instant fan !

            zola,
I've never understood why many folk fans bemoaned the inadequacies of the Radio 2 Harding programme when all they had to do was
tune to Late Junction and Verity in particular. Max does his bit too, of course.
            Music of the world ...
Anyway zola, anybody in particular lighting your fire at the moment ?

Well that is good news. We'll obviously dedicate a thread to her when she returns, think there's some spare ones at the back of the infinite cupboard.

                PS
We've already got a thread, thanks to zola !

I think it must the name 'zola' which put me in mind of Johnny Dowd.
He owns ' Zolar Moving Co', Ithaca, New York
                I have the t-shirt.

Hmm maybe. And R. Newman is back too with Vol 2., after a mere 8 yr hiatus.

It's a time of new begennas

The Harding programme may actually be worth listening to next week since it is a Martin Carthy 70th special including interview. I would post this on the Carthyism thread if that hadn't taken such a strange turn !

I blame the hosts myself, maybe we should just have one massive random thread called 'weeblings' ?

Yeah Global...and he was the star guest on the One Show tonight, and after an uncomfortable start got almost comfy on the sofa - and, from Blackpool, there was a fine sand sculpture of him at the end - seems they do that kinda stuff on that show, so I'm informed.

I'm still getting a bit caught out by the early start, but I particularly enjoyed the run that went Mamadou Diabate, Shirley Collins, Cahalen Morrison & Ely West, Brian Finnegan - very excellent indeed and toe-tappin' to boot. (well, mostly)

Here's a crackin' track from last night's VS LJ I thought - stopped me in my tracks.
