If you have access to 'World Gone Wrong', Lat, go and have a wee listen to 'Delia' - such an amazing song, brilliantly interpreted by Dylan, in my opinion.

Agree with that + a couple more World Gone Wrong unreleased items on Bootleg 8, ('Mary and the Soldier' and '32-20 Blues'). We were at Bournemouth last Thursday and it was a great show with him on his best form for years, at least compared to the the last couple of time we have seen him. A nice balance of old, new and standards. You could hear the words. For some reason I kept finding myself singing 'Duquesne Whistle' while driving home afterwards. With no support or interval and we were home in N Wilts before midnight.

Re Later albums: I agree with JC on 'Love and Theft'. Other later favourites are 'Oh Mercy', "Time out of Mind' (nice Highlands = Lowlands exposition here), Modern Times', 'Tempest' (four songs on current setlist).

In the first of the very interesting programmes with Randy Newman on Radio 2 last week, the Great Man said among everything that his favourite music was gospel and played a track by Dorothy Love Coates. I hadn't heard her for ages and what a delight. Anyway it had me running for 'Get Away Jordan' which was the first track I heard by her on some cheap gospel compilation I got and couldn't stop playing for days. 'Tongue glued to the roof of my mouth.'

I love Dorothy Love Coates, I've got my boogie woogie in with blues and rock no roll and gospel on my shelves. There's increasing gospel. Still, far too small, Just three shelves and I reckon Elvis fans wouldn't know what to make of that combination. It makes sense to me. Let's be frank. I have mentioned it elsewhere. I liked Gurrumul a lot. Never bought into him. It was the promotion. Far too obvious. I also happened to be part of the audience for a tour of "Aboriginal Soul" - have that CD - and consequently that was closer emotionally. But he was blind, he touched thousands if not millions, his voice was beautiful and he was only 46. I am going to do the thing that I always criticise others of doing. He touched so many hearts. I'm buying him now. The CD is on its way. I'd hovered so many times. And life can be a bitch. We know that! As for Sting, well, I am not a part of the easy knocking brigade:

(An interesting thing about him musically is that several songs were essentially "Knock, knock, knockin' on heavens door" - some would say copyism but a lot of Dylan influence there!)

(I feel more moved by this news than I anticipated - sad - Sting's North East and will go to 100 - consequently totally biased and will forgive anything - has done a lot of good imo!)
