        Two days to go.......

1964 Presidential campaign song from Barry Goldwater's wife. The flip side, "Never Look Back", can be found elsewhere on this channel.Enjoy.

(he and his folks were so smart the way they involved his wife in the campaign........so smart)

I keep thinking she's singing 'he's sperm in his convictions!' A comment on JFK's presidency, Lat?

I keep thinking it is 1965, Trump is Goldwater and Goldwater has won. The Goldwater would have won if he hadn't been called Barry. But the Donald's pout was a winner too - pure Marilyn Monroe (see also JFK) meets Frankie Howerd (with a touch of Lisa Thiel). Only a day to go. The Mormons have agreed to play which is good as there's hardly anyone else:

Here's an odd thing. I knew that he was going to have a Mormon choir at his big do. Nevertheless, when I posted the Piano Guys with the idea that they might be playing that was intended to be something of a joke. I was therefore fascinated to see that they were one of the very small number of acts who did turn up. Apparently they covered One Direction. I hadn't heard of the Piano Guys until those people knocked at my door. Clearly they are more famous than I realized. I was disappointed by the music at the ceremony because (a) I don't think he had "Simple Gifts" in it unlike Obama, Clinton and possibly Reagan and (b) there may not have been any proper music in it at all. I just read about it in the papers.

                    Anyway, back to the records!

Unbelievable, Lat, nearly 32 million listens to that tune. Bloomin' 'eck!

On the subject of 'Simple Gifts' and Judy Collins, I found this old version of her singing it from 1963.

I have some catching up to do on this part of the forum which I will do later this weekend.

I have just bought a Franco and TPOK Jazz CD which I have been wanting for a long time and I am currently waiting for an album by Oliver Mtukudzi.

I met a young Zimbabwean at a work thing the other night and he said he doesn't get back much these days as it's too crazy now. I was bemoaning the loss of the days when Zimbabwean music felt like it was ruling the airwaves, Lat - we talked Oliver, 4 Bros, Bhundus, Mapfumo, Jairos Jiri etc. So sad that's gone!

                              Yes indeed JC.

As someone who tries to find modern world music tracks that have escaped the attention of respected journalists it can be increasingly difficult to find roots based music that "got away". The more interesting things I am able to unearth are often from the past. Some of it is a reminder. Luckily a lot of it is what I should have known at the time but new to me.
