Belatedly a bit confused about the Shane MacGowan link as his birthday is Christmas Day.
Kenny Everett was the same.
However, he is 60 which is extraordinary in its way.
Anyhow, news just in : Zuma's gone.

Always found 17 Hippies a bit hit and miss, personally. But when they're good they're great as they are here on 'Adieu' which made a delightful appearance on Songlines 'Top of the World', a choice of Samira Ahmed. Great hearing a song in German.

This coming Saturday will be the eighth anniversary of the death of Charlie Gillett.
Twelve years ago, he was two months away from the end of an 11 year stint of Saturday nights on BBC Radio London, previously GLR/London Live.
The programme broadcast on 11 March 2006 featured Daby Balde, a "West African star on the rise":

Sweet as broken dates - came out last August, seems a lifetime ago. Well worth another listen
For example Nimco Jamaac, here she is revisiting the song 9 years ago
They’d been listening to some Trojan mixtapes I’m sure...
The whole thing on La Spoot

I put this here because I notice in the paper that 45 years on from Victor Jarra's violent incarceration and murder, 8 retired soldiers have been sentenced to 18 years. Christy Moore tells it better than I ever could.
