You know what, Lat, I think 'Lovely' is the perfect word for this piece...and it made me feel lovely too.

In a rather timely fashion, given yesterday's anniversary, I found Time (The Revelator) lurking in the glove compartment in the motor this morning. Only one tune to play...glorious stuff from Welch and Rawlings.
Gillian Welch and partner/Producer David Rawlings perform at St Lukes for the BBC Four Sessions in 2007.This song was written by Welch/Rawlings for their 200...

Fully recognize that this is one of my many obsessions but it struck me today that the fantastic woman in this clip is now more than 93 and two thirds:

My second favourite pianist of all time : no, that doesn't sound right at all - joint first:

            Just in case:

Tere Bin (Khan), Eshashi Oiwake (Hirota) and Birima (N'Dour)......these are in the all time top Lat ten.

            Nusrat - Tere Bin - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GiEvh7eOJvw

(A damn shame that YT hasn't any longer got the one with the dervishes)

Awright, not going to get much mileage out of Joji on YT but this was the closest I ever came to singing in the rain.

We sang in the rain - hundreds of us - and in the process defined joy:

Artist: YOUSSOU N'DOURSong: Birima (Youssou N'dour, Ndèye Mbaye Djinema-Djinema, Jimi Mbaye)LYRICS TO BIRIMAHe assumed the throne of CajorAnd becam...

This was earlier at Womad - by four years - great but not as crowd atmospheric - it is his brilliant song best though:

But you do have to be there.......it's such a simple but clever song.........tis the gift to be etc ! !

            See you soon!

Yep, right........who, what, where, when, why (Rupert Holmes if I'm not mistaken).......this is not as great as BBC Kidzone's "Colour Me Cornwall" but it'll do.

              As many things do, yes?:

                  Not heard for a while?

Not sure we’ve ever mentioned the Chemirani family before on these boards, nor can I recall them on r3...in fact the Zarb is also neglected. To put things right:

Saw Michael Chapman in Milngavie Folk Club last night. He's got a new record out called '50' cos he's been 50 years on the go - time has taken its toll on the voice, but not on the guitar playing which was pretty astounding really. Anyway, GT may well be interested to hear that MC is still performing this tune recalling his final days of living in Hull, 'Shuffleboat River Farewell' from Wrecked Again.

HmM thanks JC. Did I ever tell you of my idea that all rock and roll artists should be compulsorily retired at 60? Various reasons - they’re usually bereft of ideas, burnt out physically and mentally and would also make way for the hordes of young up comers.
I’m wondering about adding certain sub genres of folkies too...whereas Cuban, Ethiopiques et al can just go on for EVER.

That was one of only two oldies that he did, GT. I don't think he could give up - seems to travel all over the place. He's recently picked up some young guns on the Americana circuit who appear to hold him in high esteem. I think we need grouchy old guys around. Here's one of his relatively new ones which I enjoyed very much during the gig...Memphis in Winter.

You look somehow different, Global, and yet the same. Do I detect the end of October coming on?

Stumbled across this old fave avatar JC and after that little shriek of horror thought it summed up present mood pretty well.
