I'm a little A-Z'd out but I'm sure I'll enjoy some of your contributions.

Here's the BBC's list, just for completeness

        OK.

What I will do is have another look at JC's list in post 147 and revise my one in post 195 taking further account of his comments.

        Then we will close it.

I was a bit unsure what to do with regard the world A-Z playlist as it was just sitting there. So here's what I did - I put as many tracks as I could find which were mentioned in the A-Z string, and a few others and turned it into an A-Z playlist. It's open for other additions - not a lot of hardinger in there for example and I'm sure there's plenty more gaps...or you can just have a listen.

That's fine. I looked at it just before the weekend and there are some mighty fine tracks there. Many thanks. Perhaps we could have a try at adding to it in the coming week?

I will be altering the post before last when I've thought it through. And I am heading back in the direction of Spotify - substantially - but I haven't quite got my head there yet.

                    Yes thank you.

OK - to the best of my ability I have completed Short List B in post 199. This takes on board many that were suggested by you Global, many that were on your list JC, a few of our guests' suggestions, eg drums and a fair few of mine. I have tried not to duplicate areas agreed in Short List A although there is overlap. I've tried to include areas that weren't in Short List A. I've tried to include a reasonable balance re geography, gender etc. There is a choice now. Either everyone says "yes" or suggestions for tweaking are put forward.

I don't mind what we do.

Overall from me - but I'd still like to see a ref that leads to Griots/Mali/Diabate (and probably a Traore or 2) on there. Wouldn't like to lose Drums (rich vein to explore), so do we sacrifice the Mahotella Queens or the Gilbertos?? Or is there another way? And if I'm over represented (feels like I've got quite a few faves on there) then I'll step back. Keep coming back to the importance of the Griot to Malian culture. Am I just lobbing a problem back at you Lat. Or could we have Gilberto's and Griots? ? that would be fine.

Sol Hoopii (1902--16 November 1953) was a Native Hawaiian guitarist, claimed by many as the all-time best lap steel guitar virtuoso.

The steel player looks a little thin to be Sol - but a nice sequence anyway - from 1929. For more information and other Hawaiian music related fun, visit www...

Let's have Griots on the basis that the bossa nova sound could almost be jazz.

A very interesting clip, that first one, which I have just watched.

                          Okinawa - http://www.powerofokinawa.com/features.html

This was the topic on which I had a forum conversation with Ian Anderson of Froots. It was probably on the BBC boards at the time CG was also posting. The Rinken Band. Can they be taken seriously? Most certainly, he said, and then he mentioned where they sat in world music tradition. Subsequently, I believe Andy Kershaw produced a programme in which he spent some time at an Okinawan event, describing with a mixture of bemusement and joy the colour and eccentricity of it all? But the Brozman link is apt because the album of Brozman's I have is one that he did with Takashi Hirayasu who has become the leading Okinawan musician. The main point is we don't have much from that area of the world.

The final Short List B is now shown in this post and the next step is to have a closer look at the Spotify list.

Thanks Lat. That Brozman was an interesting character. I've got a great CD/DVD combo of him in Papua New Guinea which I like.

This old World Routes from 2006 might be one of the programmes about Okinawa you refer to, with Paul Fisher - I'll add it to my list to listen. It's from the R3 WM archive.

Re the spotify list, as I've said I started to add a few tunes but there didn't seem a lot of energy for it so I have transcribed as many of the youtube links as I could find to a spotty song. Some links were too non-specific to be linked to one particular track and so I chose something that seemed to fit the bill. There were others who did not register with Spotty and so have been missed. It is by no means complete but is available for additions. Here's the link once again.

Thank you JC - I'm listening to it now.

Really enjoyed hearing Kugani Michibushi again - I know it well and it is beautiful. Paul Fisher is doing this very well. I'm a bit vague on the Kershaw. Perhaps it was a part of Music Planet? Tried to find my chat with Ian but - incredibly - it is five years this month since the BBC Message Boards closed. I will try to provide some suggestions for the Spotify list.

This appears to be where Paul Fisher is now - http://farsidemusic.com/acatalog/Far_Side_Radio.html - which is apparently also via Resonance FM!

                                Wow......you've been busy - 156 songs - I saw about 20 on Friday.

Have no idea how to synchronise the list with search but will try!
