Just because this is going twenty times faster than four hungry children and a crop in the field, don't let anyone think that I am not in with the in tray.

For H I was thinking Harp, but specifically I was thinking of those Horse worshipping, Jew's Harp playing women who stunned us all at the Human Planet Prom 4 or 5 years back. Remember when they used to have proms like that.
Ayarkhaan from the Sakha Republic
Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.
Maybe H should be Human Planet...mibbe, mibbe not!Last edited by johncorrigan; 18-09-15, 22:27.

Many thanks for all the links which I have listened to in full apart from the documentary which I'm saving until later. Initially I thought that Gabriele Boggio Ferraris played the balafon - with a B - but then I discovered he is more vibe and that vibe has entailed covering Nirvana's "Heart Shaped Box" May I just take the opportunity here not only to mention the singular rendition by Paul Anka of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" but also the versions of that song by Ben Williams and the Sunji Lee Quintet plus the Charlie Hunter Trio's "Come As You Are". There I've done it and that one's very nicely sorted. As far as Daniel Humair is concerned, we may need first to consider in some detail his work with Vincent Peirani.
Several members of the Committee liked F for Ferrer but others remarked that it was "a bit Buena Vista" and Joe had included those folks. The decision was to keep it on hold as an I for Ibrahim if no one came forward with a good I for anything else. In contrast, when the envelope was opened to find that G could be for Garifuna, gamelan and Ghanaian drumming, we asked for the inputs of a French prophet who had said in the mid 1970s there was a risk we could all "drown in music". Discussions are ongoing with one individual holding out for Gillett, C and I will put my hands up here. That person is me and I may dig my heels in. H is for harps, horse worship and the Human Planet. It is not inconceivable that all those three could be combined and, if so, Ayarkhaan are probably the people to do it. When we have done the next two letters - and do all feel free either to backtrack or fast forward at any time - I will combine everyone's thinking so far in an updated list. That way we can postpone a merry Konono No 1 dance on "is it a K for Kennedy or Kothari?"

Well alternatively I could be Ibrahims - Abdullah and Ferrer - just a thought. As for K, since you mention it Lat, I can't decide:
Klezmer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpqV...oXhJeLSihV1sFg
Kora:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7yscUCZMBI
Kwela: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKz5...=RDEg9NUZ-G-sk
...spoiled for choice!
...but hold on, what happened to J - did I miss something?

Some other thoughts:
D could be for Duran or Doug Schulkind, E for ethnomusicologists, and F for Franco, flamenco or Froots.
H for Haiti, hardanger fiddle or, erm, hoss hair and J for jit, Jean Jenkins, Japan or Jajouka.
What are we thinking about the letter "I"?
