Following Global's mention of Emahoy's presence in this month's 'Songlines', I decided to shell out for a copy. On the attached CD, among some very fine tracks, one of the stand-outs was Bex Burch's 'Dawn Blessing'. Beautifully atmospheric.
Directed by Louise Boer."Dawn blessings" composed by Rebecca Joy Burch, Erin Mackenzie Stewart, Mikel Patrick Avery, Anton Hatwich, and Rob Frye; featuring B...

By the way I read Songlines digitally for free using my library card. Obviously you don't get the CD...

Our library is part of some digital licensing arrangement which allows this.

The app you need is Libby for magazines or Pressreader for the news papers.

It's worth asking your local library - there are some treasures to be found depending on your interest. Also some e-books.

All you need is your library card number.

I gave my Son the new Bombino record for Christmas. I have enjoyed his music in the past and this had a fine write-up. We listened in yesterday - what a cracking CD. Here's a beauty of a song from him - Ayo Nigla - beautiful guitar here.
Ayo Nigla, taken from Sahel, the new album out September 15 on Partisan Records. Pre-order/pre-save here: https://bomino.lnk.to/SahelFOLLOW:WEBSITE: https://...

Thanks to the Neverending playlist (thanks JC) I was minded to head off and listen to some live music by Omara "Bombino" Moctar the Tuareg guitarist.

Here's a good 15 min session from the NPR Tiny Desk series....I'm v keen on the tall guy bashing the giant orange. Nice work if you can get it...

There's something alluring and charming about Bombino, whose childlike face belies his fierce, hypnotic guitar playing. The first time I saw him perform, I f...

I just picked up on the recent release on Dark Horse records of 'Dreamers in the Field' by Huun-Huun Tur in collaboration with Carmen Rizzo and Dhani Harrison. Very atmospheric sounds where the traditional sounds of the band are given a bit more production. Very spacy, very beautiful and most enjoyable.
Dark Horse Records is proud to announce the release of  Dreamers In The Field , the first-ever collaboration between  Huun-Huur-Tu ,  Carmen Rizzo  and  Dhani Harrison . The album is available to stream now HERE

Seun Kuti has just released this - 'Stand Well Well' with his Egypt 80 - very much channelling the spirit of his old Dad - cracking tune.

I bought a CD of Arabian music last week - one of those 'Rough Guides'. The best track is this one by Limor Oved, a woman of Libyan and Syrian descent, singing here in Hebrew and calling for the protection of the rights of women in the Jewish world: 'Blessed to be a Woman'.

Jerron Paxton playing his banjo, and singing 'What's Gonna Become of Me' from BBC2's Later a week or so back.

not found but refound - came across this in the depths of the From Dust to Digital website

helps to ignore the gloom for a few moments as a man in his mid 80s makes music in the bath with a bunch of his mates.
