It's sixteen years since Ali Farka Toure died.Yesterday, on BBC Radio 3's 'Music Planet', I found out that World Circuit is releasing a CD of unreleased recordings next month, the first new stuff since his wonderful record with Toumani Diabate, ten years back. Here's the track that Lopa played yesterday...and faded out before the end.

Full credit to Andy Kershaw for introducing our ears to the DeZurik sisters all those years ago. They turned up on Mrs GT's birthday playlist...
Here is a rare live performance...
and a lo-fi performance of the little heard Yippi-Yippi-Ye-Ow (both recorded in the 50's)

Unthank:Smith are Rachel Unthank and Paul Smith and they've recently released a collaboration called 'Nowhere and Everywhere'...here's a haunting track from it called 'Seven Tears'...lighthouses are haunting, I think.

New album from Baaba Maal - only just got round to listening to it.
As every track is good, which to choose? When in doubt always go for the track named in homage to Frank Zappa...
Baaba Maal - Freak Out Ft. The Very Best (Official Video)Track 2 'Freak Out' is out everywhere now, taken from the forthcoming album, 'Being'. A collaboratio...
In the song is a proverb that comes from the Fulanis, “The one who knows everything and don't say anything is the wrong person. If you know, you have to share your knowledge. But the one also who knows everything and say all the things is also the one who destroyed everything. Because you should know, in your knowledge what you have to say and what you don't have to say.” It’s not everything that has to be said."
And that's having listened to the new album from Lisa O'N.
Here's a track called Silver Seed with a video by Myles O'R.:

Guinea-Bissau's Kimi Djabate was the live guest on Cerys Matthews' show at the weekend. A Griot balafon player, Kimi performed with a fine band and his new record 'Dindin' is well worth a listen. I also had a delve into his back catalogue and very good it is. Hadn't been aware of him previously.

Heard this on LJ (reduced to 60 mins ...some traditions never change).
The Shovel Dance Company - new to me
Shovel Dance Collective - My Husband's Got No Courage In Him From the film 'The Broadside Hack'Watch trailer https://bit.ly/3B6fz2hBuy 'The Broadside Hack - ...
Of course, my old ears heard 'carrots', whereas it turns out he is actually singing 'courage'.
Not to everyone's taste (as per comments on YT) but we have a combination of bass voice and drone with the repetitive lyrics - what more could you ask for ?
Carrots obviously
I prefer my version.
In passing, this is not a bad edition of LJ

I notice that Kronos Quartet plus guests are releasing a record with versions of Moondog's Music - it's called "Songs and Symphoniques: The Music of Moondog" - here's a link.
"Songs and Symphoniques: The Music of Moondog" is a collaboration between Ghost Train Orchestra and Kronos Quartet featuring brilliant new re-imaginings of the music of Louis Hardin aka Moondog, the blind composer who lived on the streets of Manhattan and became a fixture on 6th Avenue, dressed in striking Viking attire while selling his records and reciting poetry.
