Are you sure it wasn't Jocky Wilson?

(and I love the polite applause at the end...I mean, that's entertainment)

Never read it, cloughie. Loved that quote down the page - 'I fear that a single one of Viv's thoughts would blow my damn brains out' - John Peel. Must go have a look.

Courtesy of Petroc on Brekkie earlier this week, I found out that Ballake Sissoko has a new record coming out next month - here's a beautiful piece with Sona Jobarteh from the forthcoming release - 'Djourou'.

Oops, GT...just realised I was at it too.

Anyway, no doubt he's been playing Rhiannon Giddens and Franco Turrisi too, and this is my favourite track from the recently released record - 'Avalon'.

Rhiannon Giddens' "Avalon" with Francesco Turrisi, from their album 'They're Calling Me Home,' out now on Nonesuch Records: https://rhiannongiddens.lnk.to/th...

From the city that brought us Staff Benda Billili, Konono No 1 and Kasai Allstars, here's more of that electronic junk music this time from Panter - typical Kinshasan energy and a fine vid too - wish I could do those back flips.

That's a great pick JC. You're too modest - I'm sure I have read reports of you doing back flips after a wild night down Mrs McNab's Drink Parlour in the Kirrie Weekly Gleaner?

Saw this highly entertaining article from a couple of years ago about Chris May making an album with Kinshasa outfit, KOKOKO. What a place!

I posted on another thread about Ian Lynch's podcast, Fire Draw Near - ostensibly dedicated to Irish traditional music.
                          Well, not always.
Here's a track from Ep. 24 by Hassan Wargui - new to me - and the track title is translated as "Music Speaks"

Things opened up enough and just in time for the 'Lost Songs' collective to perform in Perth Concert Hall last night - almost a full house from where we were sitting. Fantastic evening - the wonderful musicians were delighted to play together in front of an audience, and the audience were delighted to have them there. Great songs and performances throughout - very impressed by cellist Beth Porter and a couple of her MacFarlane inspired songs. Here was one of the highlights of the night for me; Karine Polwart leading off on a song about that wee flower that inhabits so much of our coast, Thrift.
