Quite possibly my favourite music video of the year JC. As simple as that...
Agreed, GT. They certainly grabbed my attention on the radio - I was looking for something else and jumped back to them. I thought they were great. My memory is they were in the last 15 mins before the 6.30 news, but they're not on the playlist (that's about 2hours and 15 mins in). Like his old Dad used to do, Ravescroft plays some total gems hidden in amongst a buncha mince.
Hugh Masekela has just released his 44th record. This is such a relaxed old-style South African tune - 'The Rooster' featuring Themba Mokoena. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e44drE1VfYE
I like this a lot.
Now prompted to look at the track listing, I went immediately to the collaboration with Oliver Mtukudzi.
Karine Polwart has a new album out - her first for 4 years. It’s called A Pocket of Wind Resistance.
It’s based on her theatre show from the Edinburgh Fest in 2016, she’s worked with a sound designer called Pippa Murphy. Difficult to pick a track, as it all meshes together.
(Sound designer is the kind of job they never tell you exists...)

I haven't heard any of that album yet Global - looking forward to it!.
Have just been having a look at the lists for the Canadian Folk Music Awards in September.
Now well into his 70s, Boubacar Traore's got a new record out recorded down in the deep south of Louisiana. Very much in that Ali Farka tradition and with some mighty fine moothie in there. Great feel, I think.

75......and, in my opinion, this has the look and sound of a classic world music album.
Clearly it is a late peak in his career - and on the basis of the clips I have seen, in which he is full of musical energy, I doubt it is his swan song.
Of course, this doesn't apply to the Traore family. Is Boubacar the senior member nowadays I wonder?
I did try to come up with a sensible answer.
All I can say is Boubacar's a nobleman, not a griot, it was his older brother who introduced him to music and the album "Macire" was probably named after him, Lobi was younger and is now sadly no more, Rokia is obviously younger, and we are, of course, now quite a long way from the Presidency of Moussa T (1968-1991) which prompted the rise of a generation of musicians in the politically favoured roots revival. So it may very well be a "yes" though there are Traores and Traores. Some have even been footballers but there's only one Kar Kar.
(Kar Kar - literally in football "the one who dribbles too much" but it also works as a double iteration when thinking of Boubacar as "bubble car" - although that is probably just me!)

Reason: yes, I know it's been on YT for a but, but the EP has only just come out. 3 different versions of this song on it.
