Agreed, Lat, going by what I've heard so far. Talking of which, sort of, Songlines Magazine has just announced their nominations for world music awards 2017. They've divided into 7 sections and winners will be announced middle of May. http://www.songlines.co.uk/music-awards/nominees.php
While quite a few on the list were in our December/January round up, I am struck by just how many were not so there is plenty there to explore.
Thanks Lat...enjoyed the U-Roy though wondering about the sentiments...need another listen.
Here's the original recording of Girma Bèyènè doing Enkèn Yèlélèbesh - brilliant voice!.

Sabil's track 'Zabad' is the title track of this Palestinian duo augmented with Turkish input. I've been finding the track quite hypnotic with its mix of oud and double bass and buzuq. Can't find it on YT but it's on spotty.

...also I can't find Kondi Band's 'Yeanoh' on YT except for a remixed version, but I prefer the stripped down sound made by this Sierra Leonian mbira player which is here on spotty.

...and on a totally different note here's new from Bonobo...hope it's not too trancy but its got some fine voices and a very nice wee vid, I thought. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ArWQWAUoiSU
Yes, I see what you mean about the sentiments. I think I am choosing to see it as a melding of irony in "representing" a Trumpish angle and rastafarian style idealism about returning to a homeland. But I could be wrong. Very much like the tracks by Girma Bèyènè and Bonobo. Atmospheric. Thanks. I am about to listen at long last to the links in your additional posts.
Great new track by Rodney Crowell about the wonderful Guy Clark, that was written by Crowell in the last month of his great friend Guy's life. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EFrpzPR6TLY
Oh yes - special. It alludes to Clark's style, I feel. Crowell here reminds me of Steve Forbert. And I love Rosanne Cash who would have deserved to have made it even without the name.

I hadn't heard it - I'm not sure about Baloji which isn't a euphemism for not liking him. I'm just not sure. What I am sure about is the lovely musical accompaniment on that song.

We have done my father's, fairer-skinned, side. Took it last. It is now way ahead of my mother's. I found out today that I had a great-grandmother with the surname Kirk and a great-great grandmother with the surname Neal. Both born in London - although elsewhere we have now reached out to Kent, Essex, Norfolk and even Somerset - but given the character of the names I am claiming these women as my Scottish and Irish blood respectively. It always had to be somewhere. Nothing made any great sense musically in its supposed absence.

Well, it's different Global. Thanks. London Live which the last time I looked was the only television station of The Independent has been interviewing Levi Roots. The sauce and big business expert has strong opinions which are expected to be more meaningful than his name is to me. Who buys into what? I don't know. How far did Island or Trojan sell out?
But that triple disc reggae reggae hits album released by him this month has its moments.
I always wondered about the Sonny Boy Williamsons...well the great Randy Newman provides the answer in his usual style, on his newly released record, 'Dark Matter'. Sonny Boy - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RR8BBJz416Q

Or jc we could have Paul Jones' take lamenting the demise of SBW
Alan Davey over on Twitter was proclaiming the re-release of this album after a mere 40 year hiatus.
Paul Sherratt and I leapt on him pretty smartly and suggested, perhaps, possibly, Radio 3 gave it a little air time.
Verity Sharp seemed quite keen...
So, for example, this track which contains one of the finest unaccompanied pieces of singing known to humanity, might be given a wider airing:
A haunting, evocative song from Lal & Mike's only album, the myth-making Bright Phoebus (1972). The clips were taken at Berrybrae, an ancient stone circle ne...
The album is released on vinyl and CD and contains remastered originals as well as the demos, of course it is on Spotify too.
