Absolutely agree JC those 12 mins simply flew by, great insights into PS's musicianship. I'd listen to JB drawl on for hours given the chance.

Well this chimes wonderfully well with a lot of recent things. Oddly, I was looking today at a clip of Stravinsky conducting. I love Pete Seeger but didn't know the extent of his classical music leanings. I agree that this was a very interesting episode. JB gives a good account of him in view of his role re Dylan at Newport - a strange incident given also the nature of Pete Yarrow's involvement. It was good to have a track by Dino Lipati too - and I am now enjoying the clip of the Goofing-Off Suite which I will listen to in whole.

This is a fairly balanced piece of writing which addresses in part JB's comments on Stravinsky. I have added the question mark in the title as that seems apt. The final paragraph is probably the most important and it would seem linked to Seeger's own views even though he often came from a clear left wing - though also a conservative - perspective.

          Too true, Lat.
By the way, in the middle week of the fortnight here's a link to Joe's tale of Newport - M - Maggie's Farm.

...and while Joe's in mind I came across Songlines 90 where Joe picked 5 of his favourites among which was this belter:
Etoile De Dakar (featuring Youssou N'Dour) - Jalo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ichyBbsWXIE

...and a fine wee bit of Argentinian Tango from Carlos Gardel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yNKbVGmdyVo
          Thought I should share!

Those are very good, JC. Thank you very much. Oddly, I don't have any Gardel. On a different point, I am not sure if it was on this thread or another thread that I was recently rambling on about how to get "Shumba" on CD. Having looked at my CD collection properly, I see that I already have it on the album of the same name. A good job I checked!

One of the highlights of Joe's current series must surely be this QQ episode. Toumani Diabate, Ballake Sissoko, Taj Mahal - yep, you can guess the album. We owe Joe huge thanks for that magnificent album and, listen, there's Dr Lucy's involvement mentioned right there.

Sorry Joe, still doesn't beat this McGarrigle work in my humble opinion - good show though
Martha Wainwright's soaring yet delicate harmonies take center stage in her performance of elegy "Proserpina," written by her late mother, the legendary folk...

Yes - a very interesting episode focusing on a great album. As in a couple of the other episodes, there was also the exciting suggestion of an album to be released. The episode RR was on John Trudell who I have to admit is new to me although it is just possible he was with Midnight Oil when I saw them in the late 1980s. Again, fascinating, and quite timely.

I enjoyed this one too. As with Leonard Cohen, there is little need for comment - other than to remark on the quality - as the very fine lyrics in her songs speak for themselves.

I'm already wondering if the next series will be AAA-ZZZ...?? Or numbers - keep on keeping on Joe, this format suits him.

I've been struggling to access them recently, GT. In fact I haven't managed to hear the last 4 programmes...not sure what I'm doing wrong. Missing it actually!

Oh no JC - this is a different link you could try - http://www.joeboyd.co.uk/podcast-player. If that doesn't work here is information about 71 year old Michelle's Girl, Dr Gugum Gumbira Graham - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gugum_Gumbira and Idjah Hadidjah's "Tonggeret" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJDd49R6ZIU (kliningan with rebab).

(They obviously stole the first three notes from the closing bars of "Soul Serenade" by King Curtis ('64) - see Alexis Korner etc etc - but apart from that I have no complaints)

Maybe we could ask Joe to switch it off and on at his end?
Actually he could perhaps reset the planet while he's at it.

I have a podcast app (but then I would wouldn't I? :-) ) and I've added Joe Boyd's to that, so the new one pops up automatically, no idea where it pulls it from

nice post Lat by the way, lovely track; and the full album is on Spotify

and that track is featured on the Nonesuch Explorer series album on Indonesian Music, which contains other gamelan treasures.
