This is a fairly balanced piece of writing which addresses in part JB's comments on Stravinsky. I have added the question mark in the title as that seems apt. The final paragraph is probably the most important and it would seem linked to Seeger's own views even though he often came from a clear left wing - though also a conservative - perspective.

I love Pete Seeger but didn't know the extent of his classical music leanings. I agree that this was a very interesting episode. JB gives a good account of him in view of his role re Dylan at Newport - a strange incident given also the nature of Pete Yarrow's involvement. It was good to have a track by Dino Lipati too - and I am now enjoying the clip of the Goofing-Off Suite which I will listen to in whole.

By the way, in the middle week of the fortnight here's a link to Joe's tale of Newport - M - Maggie's Farm.
...and while Joe's in mind I came across Songlines 90 where Joe picked 5 of his favourites among which was this belter:
Etoile De Dakar (featuring Youssou N'Dour) - Jalo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ichyBbsWXIE
...and a fine wee bit of Argentinian Tango from Carlos Gardel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yNKbVGmdyVo
Thought I should share!

One of the highlights of Joe's current series must surely be this QQ episode. Toumani Diabate, Ballake Sissoko, Taj Mahal - yep, you can guess the album. We owe Joe huge thanks for that magnificent album and, listen, there's Dr Lucy's involvement mentioned right there.
Bring her back on the radio someone please

(They obviously stole the first three notes from the closing bars of "Soul Serenade" by King Curtis ('64) - see Alexis Korner etc etc - but apart from that I have no complaints)Last edited by Lat-Literal; 30-11-16, 22:51.

Actually he could perhaps reset the planet while he's at it.
I have a podcast app (but then I would wouldn't I? :-) ) and I've added Joe Boyd's to that, so the new one pops up automatically, no idea where it pulls it from
nice post Lat by the way, lovely track; and the full album is on Spotify
and that track is featured on the Nonesuch Explorer series album on Indonesian Music, which contains other gamelan treasures.
