This wasn't on that album but it was my introduction to Jean-Baptiste Frédéric Isidor, Baron, "Toots", Thielemans:

I'd forgotten this song, Lat. Thanks - great moothie and terrific clip!

I knew that it was the Dixie Hummingbirds who were on 'Rhymin' Simon' but Joe is absolutely right it's Claude Jeter who provides the song's big hook on 'Loves me like a rock', though I can't see it written down anywhere that he is in there! Most notes only say that he's the voice on 'Take me to the Mardi Gras!' (I hadn't even taken the time to work out who it was before I heard JB's podcast - what a voice indeed).

Joe's up to G already, and he kicked off with 'Greenville'. Time to dig the masterpiece back out.

Not having an issue with it, Lat. Here's a link direct to G, maybe that'll get you there.

            Erm......no.

            How odd.

            It was fine before.

I will see if I can access the site directly.

Update - I can get into Joe's site. The acast.com site won't let me in!

Strange - it's working for me, Lat - maybe it'll turn itself off and turn itself on again.

                It is working now.

Lucinda's father did teach poetry but his name was not Mason as JB suggests. Mason Williams produced "Classical Gas".

Her father was (Stanley) Miller Williams and he was a highly respected poet and editor as well as being an academic.

I was surprised that I hadn't heard the Mason Williams link before - 'Classical Gas'; what a tune! By the way, Lat, what was the Russian poetry movement he was talking about?

                        Thank you JC.

Pardon me for not writing more but I've just been Bali Sailing Hai By. It's blimmin' wonderful as a good night tonic. Apologies for my swearing.

Joe's on H this week - I struggled to get in so went via Joe's website.

Comedian Harmonists play centre stage with Joe this week.

I was able to access this one easily.

                            Odd isn't it.

There is a hint of Brian Rust on Capital Radio in the 1970s about this edition. All good. Don't know whether Brian ever featured them on his programme though. When it comes to WM, there is a slight issue with Germany. Nothing against - but it is a bit of a void. Consequently, I would welcome suggestions that counter this outlook. What immediately comes to my mind is the championing of 17 Hippies by Charlie in his later years. I didn't mind them but wasn't completely convinced. Then I saw them at Womad and felt about the same.

                            This one is OK:

Don't know Brian Rust, Lat. What happened to the Comedian Harmonists happened I'm sure to many groups. Joe's story was quite sad really. But it reminded me of a Robert Crumb programme that was part of his excellent 'Sweet Shellac' programmes that were broadcast a good number of years back on R3. Anyway, I went looking and there it is on YT - entitled 'Weimar Germany'.

I am anticipating you will find it hard to believe commercial radio in London in the 1970s/1980s could ever have sounded like this -

                                Brian Rust - Mardi Gras : Dance Steps from 1983 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TrWjXzkTzQg

(I accept it isn't very similar but it works for me tonight, especially what with Aguero's performance and not having him in my squad)

As a further thought, this was recorded on CG's programme on Capital - imagine the advertisers agreeing to that sort of thing now!

Paul Mativire and Jairos Jiri Band - Taurai Zvenyu - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GxCRPRuLGqY

(I really don't want to have to use my Wild Card in fantasy football this early in the season but regrettably it might now have to be done)
