I was sad to hear the death announced of the great drummer, Gerry Conway who played with the likes of Fairport, the McGarrigles, and Fotheringay. I suppose, however, I will always remember him most on that wonderful first Steeleye Span record 'Hark the Village Wait' where the drums seemed so fresh at the time. Still sound wonderful.

He first came to the fore for me in Eclection, alongsiside Trevor Lucas, they were a relatively short-lived early British folk-rock group in the late 60s, from there he played with Cat Stevens for much of the 1970s and later with Pentangle, being married to Jacqui McShee. In the 80s he also played on Jethro Tull albums. Very much part of British folk-rock for the generation who were there at its birth and grew up with it.
RIP Gerry.
