Reginald D Hunter's Songs of the South

Wasn't sure where to put this - but here seems as good as anywhere! I have just watched the first of this series which is thoughtfully presented by Reginald D Hunter. The series is available on i player for 15 to 29 days. Very interesting and engaging television - the Telegraph think so too.

me too watched all three parts of his journey home; always a fan of his sense of humour he retains a southern charm as well as a dry wit ... i especially appreciated how he approaches music as a part of living in the south .... and R L Burnside and Hill Country Blues was a revelation!

thanks for posting about it OG

      try this too:

A veteran member of the Carolina Chocolate Drops, Rhiannon Giddens steps out on her own with a solo record that convinces you she can sing anything.

Where I found my identity was when I realized that I’m from North Carolina. It’s not so much that I’m black or I’m white or I’m Indian or whatever. I’m Southern. And furthermore I’m a North Carolinian. That was a really important part of this music—finding the identity. And it kind of eclipses the race stuff. It’s like this is who I am, this is where I come from. That was hugely important to me and something that I still feel really strongly about.

watch out for this lady! her new album is a blinder!

This series has also been discussed in the "quick glance around the schedules" thread. The main reason for mentioning that here is that there are a few more You Tube links.

If you're talking North Carolina, you can't do better than this!

Great stuff, Don. I thought Loudon Wainwright did some fine versions of Charlie's songs on the Charlie Poole Project a few years back.
