    Womad, Charlton Park - 29-31 July 2011 and Bristol Zoo - 11 June 2011

Thought it might be good to have a thread for any Womad discussions in the months to come. The first acts have now been announced. It looks like this guy is on the Womad train this year. If so, fantastic. http://womad.org/artists/jackie-leven/

Anyway at this point can someone explain WOMAD to me? I've never been. And the people who do go, how do they keep busy for the rest of the year? And what radio station do they listen to?

I suspect it's like this, which never looks like much fun

irrespective of what you're listening to.

Although, having said that, I am apparently going to be at this event.

It's in a large Scottish city called Storn o'way apparently.

            Global,

This is what Womad looks like in one neck of the woods

And for those wondering about Pao Gasol

The arboretum. I'm not a lover of big crowds so that is my favourite spot.

And then, as with any good festival, there is the very little known, slightly out-of-the-way, stage. That is where you go to be able to tell everyone else about all the great stuff they have sadly missed.

For obvious reasons, I am not permitted to give a complete newcomer details of the footpath. However, let us just say that it is on the very outskirts of Malmesbury and provide this small photo as a clue:

                Lat,
I know that very place because the OH took a llama's picture there as well as in St Just !
As you say, the very, very, very outskirts of Malmesbury.

I've just realised that I had to be in that arboretum womad r3 stage picture.
A genuine prize offered to anyone who can find me !

Excellent. I think you are standing in the south west of the picture looking towards the tree. You are dressed in white.

I would be surprised if she weren't.

So, let me get this clear, the idea is to go to a festival with thousands of fans then slope off to a quiet bit to check out some little known music...?

NB now in the Brecon Beacons. Head of the valleys apparently or v. Close to it.

Oh. I'm not sure that you quite understand me Paul. I was standing on my head to look at the photo. I've got a pair of glasses with crepe paper sellotaped to them and I didn't specify which tree.

According to my magic wheel, Global is within 200 miles of Bala. I'm known for my special powers in these parts. It is only a matter of time before I go international. (He's just turned up to prove my point).

Bala? Or Bali? Or Bally? Lat - I bow to your omniscience. I've discovered the Welsh share my enthusiasm for torta negra which they insist on calling bara brith. Can I change my handle to globalbread ?

There are rumours of dragons but i'm sure they are just fiery imaginatory phantasms. On the other hand, what on earth was that strange rumbling and the orange flickering in the sky?

Note to JC - local history says a Mr West woke up one morning in 1856 and discovered that, through an Inclosure Act (sic) he now owned about 200 acres known as the Glanusk Estate. I'm looking for a legal loophole to reclaim it back for the Pictish tribes. I wish...
