    U Srinavas has died

Sad news that U Srinavas has died - a great exponent of the Carnatic mandolin, which is admittedly a rarified area, but, as demonstrated by Akkarai Subhalakshmi on Lopa Kothari's recent World on 3 programme, Indian classical music is able to embrace Western instruments to great effect.

Here is U Srinavas playing a piece of non-classical music with the excellent Michael Brook from a 1995 album, Dream.

NOTICE: I DO NOT OWN ANY COPYRIGHTS OF THIS SONG.The 3rd track from the magnificent "Dream" album. Recorded in 1995. Enjoy!

    Thanks GT.

Srinivas appeared on several of our Spotify lists mainly thanks to you. A true virtuoso who after 137 albums has died at a young age. I always love what Brook does in terms of western access to advanced artists. But for greater authenticity - no, make that purity - I believe this was George Harrison's favourite which was recorded by Srinivas when 13:
