    Shrewsbury Folk Festival

A long time since I passed by this way - tend to get my music conversations on Facebook nowadays - but thought you may like to know that Shrewsbury Folk Festival live feed replay from last weekend is still running - excellent band Blackie & the Rodeo Kings on now and Seth Lakeman, Jim Moray, the Moulettes, Full English and Bellowhead to follow overnight for any insomniacs! More over the weekend too - some great stuff - I know I was there - was anyone else - sorry if I've missed an earlier post I didn't trawl back very far!

Looks like a great festival Joe. anybody having a listen to that lot would get a good taste of how vibrant British folk and roots music is these days.
I spent a great weekend seeing many of those acts at Wickham recently.

Wonderful to see good music being enjoyed by enthusiastic all age audiences.
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

Thanks for posting the link I forgot to add ferney!

Yes it is a superb festival - we have been going since it moved from Bridgnorth - well organised, friendly and with an excellent range of music - as well as the British folk there is always a good selection of Canadian / US music. European bands are often featured and this year they had the Dhol Foundation mixing folk & bhangra. Facilities are excellent and there is even a bus the short distance into the city centre on Sat & Sun. I can also of course recommend Musicport my other favourite (and somewhat more eclectic) festival! Often fancy Wickham but a bit too far for us - always an tempting line up! Do try Shrewsbury - its tremendous value for what you get to see!

Glad to hear - I am hoping to catch much of what I haven't already seen tomorrow! Its really quite special to watch a concert you were at so soon after the event - sometimes the sound is even better as well - as it was during the Lau set which was plagued at the event by over dominant bass which muddied everything :-( A rare blip though as usually the sound is excellent - maybe the main man had gone for his tea!

Thanks for the tip on Musicport. Sounds great...and I have never visited Whitby.

actually, my one criticism of Wickham might be that it could do with having a touch more in the way of world music, as it always goes down really well.
Unfortunately this year , although Wickham had the Dhols, they were in a small second tent, and were impossible to see for latecomers.

Shrewsbury sounds fab, I'd love to go back for the festival. One problem is that in a given year, lots of the headliners, (because they are doing the circuit that year) appear at several festivals, and thus you might go a long way to see several of the same bands you have already seen. Nontheless, I'll put shrewsbury on my wishlist.

Do consider Wickham. Highly civilised, and great lineups .

Headliners aside, for me, much of the joy of festivals like this is discovering musicians you never knew existed, and reveling in the wealth of talent that there is.

That is one of the nice things about Musicport you get to see people who aren't on anywhere else - and you are in the dry and warm :-) All held in the Whitby Spa complex (except a few concerts & maybe workshops in a nearby hotel). Three stages and an informal cafe stage. It has returned to Whitby after 4 years in Bridlington at their bigger Spa but the venue kept messing the dates around and they didn't get the audiences they needed. There was a 'make or break' year a couple of years ago and fortunately - thanks to the generosity of the audience I think in buying loads of raffle tickets - I know I did! - it was make and things are well back on track - it would be great to see you there - and Whitby is beautiful!! http://www.musicportfestival.com/fes...info/2014.html
